Finding vintage gay photographs of people of color seems to be quite difficult but the blog http://www.homohistory.com has a nice post featuring about 18 photographs of mostly black / African-Americans which you can view here.

Previous Vintage Gay Photos

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share for a future post? The NYT spends 36 Hours in Cambridge

Last week the New York Times wrote a nice article about Boston’s neighbor, Cambridge, MA. While I might make different suggestions on what to do and experience, I thought this was a great article showcasing one of America’s oldest and most unique places to visit. If you are planning a trip to Boston, make time to cross the river and enjoy all that Cambridge has to offer.

Word of the day: Cruising

homoeroticCruising (\ˈkrüziŋ\ verb
Definition: to search (as in public places) for a sexual partner.
Example: Nearly every gay man you will meet has at one time or another gone out cruising, perfecting it is almost a gay right of passage.

NCAA moves games from North Carolina citing anti-LGBT law HB-2

HB2, North Carolina anti LGBT billFollowing in the footsteps of the NBA which announced this summer that they would move their 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte, the NCAA will pull seven championship events from North Carolina. The NCAA said it will relocate the men’s basketball first- and second-round games that were scheduled for March 17 and 19 in Greensboro as well as the following games listed below.

  • Division I women’s soccer championship, Dec. 2 and 4 in Cary
  • Division III men’s and women’s soccer championships,Dec. 2 and 3 in Greensboro
  • Division I women’s golf regional championships, May 8-10 in Greenville
  • Division III men’s and women’s tennis championships, May 22-27 in Cary
  • Division I women’s lacrosse championship, May 26 and 28 in Cary
  • Division II baseball championship from May 27 to June 3 in Cary

In response to the NCAA’s decision, citing that state’s anti-LGBT  law – HB2, the North Carolina Republican Party issued this bizarre statement.

“This is so absurd it’s almost comical. I genuinely look forward to the NCAA merging all men’s and women’s teams together as singular, unified, unisex teams. Under the NCAA’s logic, colleges should make cheerleaders and football players share bathrooms, showers and hotel rooms.

“This decision is an assault to female athletes across the nation. If you are unwilling to have women’s bathroom and locker rooms, how do you have a women’s team? I wish the NCAA was this concerned about the women who were raped at Baylor. Perhaps the NCAA should stop with their political peacocking — and instead focus their energies on making sure our nation’s collegiate athletes are safe, both on and off the field.”

It is unclear how to respond to such a bizarre reaction. I’m starting to wonder how much of a financial burden North Carolina politicians are willing to assume before recognizing that they are not only being made a pariah but they are doing harm to their state’s economy and reputation that will linger long after HB2 is repealed.

OMG Boston to Argentina for $349 Round-Trip

Fifteen years later, my September 11th tribute post to Graham

911, September 11thFor as long as I’ve had this blog I’ve paid tribute to my friend, Graham Berkeley, who was on the United Airlines Flight 175, which crashed into New York’s World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001.  The 15 years that have passed since his tragic death account for more time than we were friends, but he remains present in my heart and is someone I think of whenever I visit Provincetown or hear Whitney Houston and sadly every September for far less happy reasons.

Taken too soon and still missed today, Americans will mourn an attack on the nation that is for most fodder for political debate and indignation; especially this year with a Presidential election pending.  For me the 11th of September is always about giving thanks that my partner was not working the United Airlines flight and about the days that followed, which included the unfortunate task of packing Graham’s belongings and shipping them to his parents in the U.K.

In loving memory of Graham.
