Zac Efron’s little brother tells it like it is in a poem about big brother

Dylan and Zac EfronWhile trolling perusing the Internet I stumbled across a post on boy culture which led me to OMG blog about a poem Zac Efron’s younger brother, Dylan, wrote when he was a kid. I think anyone who has a close relationship with their brother could probably relate to this cute poem Dylan wrote.

ReTRUMPlican Party on Immigration

Democrats certainly are enjoying themselves, watching what I can only describe as the Donald Trump hour.

While most Republicans do not agree with Trump’s views on Immigration and Immigration Reform, the candidates running for President haven’t exactly worked to create a more welcoming party and have often stoked those same flames.  This might be a classic example of reaping what you sow.

Restaurant review: Dos Caminos Midtown

mexican restaurant in NYCDos Caminos is a Mexican restaurant with four locations in Manhattan.  Last month I met my brother for dinner at Dos Caminos Midtown on a warm summer night.  We picked the restaurant for three reasons: it was close to where we were staying; it has a large outdoor patio; and my brother suggested it (I never question him when he recommends Mexican).

The patio provides great people watching and we settled in by ordering cold beers and guacamole, which comes with a  huge basket of chips and three salsas: mild, medium (which is fairly smoky), and hot.  The menu is divided into sections including: Guacamole ($5-$14), Ceviche ($12-$18), Starters ($10-$13), Tacos ($16-$36) and House Specialties ($18-$26).

I found our server both attentive and helpful when navigating the menu.  He made excellent suggestions and left us to enjoy our meal together.  My brother ordered the Dos Caminos Chopped Salad with grilled steak. While it looked good and he said he enjoyed the salad, I’m fairly certain his favorite part of his meal was the side of sweet plantains he ordered.  They were served soft, warm and sweet. I ended up helping myself to a few of them for the sake of this review.

After some serious consideration I opted to get the herb-roasted chicken breast served with plenty of rice and beans.  The chicken was prepared with its skin and the herbs add a bit of fragrance to the plate when it is first served.  The additional side of rice and beans is a bit of overkill but it didn’t stop me from overeating and giving it my best shot to try and finish all of it.

While this isn’t the best Mexican I’ve had – it was perfect for an evening outside and anyone looking for casual dining outdoors in this part of town should check it out. Dos Caminos is located on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 50th Street.

Friday night at Pi Alley will be bearlicious

Bear WeekThe Alley in Boston will be jammed packed with guys on Friday as men from around the world fly into Boston today so they can take the morning ferry to Provincetown for the start of Bear Week on Saturday morning.

If you’ve never been or if it has been a while, head over to Downtown Crossing and check out the scene at Pi Alley located at 14 Pi Alley (just off of Washington Street and about one block from the State Street T station). Just beware a line starts forming early so it doesn’t pay to show up fashionably late.

Will Massachusetts legalize marijuana

smoking weed, pot, 420Both Governor Charlie Baker and Mayor Marty Walsh have made it clear that they oppose legalizing marijuana. However, there is a push to ask voters if they would be interested in legalizing marijuana for recreational use on the 2016 ballot. According to a Boston Globe poll in 2014 more than half indicated they support complete legalization of marijuana in the state.

What could the state of MA do with an additional $70 million?

This is important because there are a lot of misconceptions about what legalizing marijuana might lead to. So it was interesting to see that one year after the state of Washington legalized the sale and use of marijuana none of the issues that Governor Baker and Mayor Walsh rail against have come true; moreover, Washington State’s data points echo those from Colorado – the first state to legalize recreational use of marijuana.

  • WA state earned more than $70 million in taxes from marijuana sales. Doubling the original marijuana tax revenue forecast of $36 million for the first year of sales (source: Washington State Liquor Board).
  • Marijuana usage by kids in Middle and High School did not increase over the past year in Washington State (source: HealthYouthSurvey).
  • Adults arrested for marijuana possession fell from 5,500 to 120 people freeing up local law enforcement agencies and the courts (source: drugpolicy.org).

So let’s stop our annoying Nancy Reagan “Just Say No” knee jerk reaction to all things related to pot.  The parochial attitude seems patronizing and out of step. Adults are using marijuana and the drug is not showing itself to be a gateway drug nor is crime running rampant in the states that have legalized it; actually quite the contrary has been found. The only surprising fact is how much money these states are making in tax revenues.

An interpretation of the Bible that finally makes sense

Much thankMarijuana and the Bible Thought of the Days to BosGuy reader Dean who shared an interpretation of the Bible’s Old Testament that finally makes sense and even seems somewhat prophetic.

*****          *****         *****          *****

For those who didn’t know, Washington State passed two laws, legalizing gay marriage and marijuana.  The fact that gay marriage and marijuana were legalized on the same day makes perfect Biblical sense. Leviticus 20:13 says: “If a man lies with another man they should be  stoned“.  Apparently we just hadn’t interpreted it correctly before.
