Have you been enjoying Kiki Beach at M Street Beach in Southie this summer? Generally held every Saturday (unless weather gets in the way in which case it occasionally moves to Sunday), this is a casual and fun take over of a portion of this normally “bro-tastic” city beach.
If you haven’t any plans, come down and check out Kiki Beach. The boys usually don’t get to the beach much before 12PM. Look for guys to spread out just beyond the Community Center, first bus shelter to the right. Fine tune your gaydar and look for a lot of bright colors, good music and speedos (of course).
Provincetown’s 2017 Carnival Week kicks off on Saturday. America’s Finest Kickball League hosts a pick up game on Sunday at 11AM in Southie near Carson Beach at Joe Moakley Field (more info here). Earlier this month Huffington Post Queer Voices published findings from a study of gay and bisexual men where researchers found that taking four doses of PrEP around the time of sexual activity cut the risk of being diagnosed with HIV by 97 percent.
The 361 men in the new study were enrolled from France and Canada after the completion of the IPERGAY trial. They were told to take two doses of Truvada between two and 24 hours before sex, another dose 24 hours later and a fourth dose 24 hours after that.
Taking PrEP is a personal decision and one you should discuss with your primary care physician. This is yet another example of how important it can be for sexually active gay men to have access to doctors familiar with LGBTQ health issues. Fortunately here in Boston Fenway Health and the South End Associates are two excellent medical practices gay men can access.

Earlier this week a friend and fellow blogger, Matthew Rettenmund, released a video promoting a new six-part series to boyculture.
Ten years later, the story picks up where it left off and will be told through six 15-minute stories, creating a feature-length, 90-minute story. Check out this video featuring Matthew (author) and Allan Brocka (director). If you like what you see you can learn more by visiting their kickstarter page: boyculture: the series.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Chef, restaurateur and model, Franco Noriega is eye candy of the most tempting sort so it isn’t a surprise that his Instagram account has more than 400,000 followers. This Peruvian chef who now calls NYC home has a swimmer’s build that is downright distracting and often on display as you can see.
The fact that he is a successful chef and owner of the cozy Lower East Side Peruvian restaurant, Baby Brasa, in New York City only makes him more attractive and interesting to follow.

Earlier this spring I shared a video for a forthcoming movie based on a popular gay novel Call Me By Your Name .
The new trailer which was released last week gives a glimpse to the film that is scheduled to open in theaters in November 2017. If you are unfamiliar with the book, go out and buy a copy. The story centers around Elio played by Timothée Chalamet and the American graduate student, Oliver, who moves in with Elio’s family in Italy for the summer, played by Armie Hammer.
Much thanks to Rob O who writes the Seduced by the New blog where I saw this image posted last month. I figured he was perfect for this weekly post.
Changes were recently made to Massachusetts recreational marijuana bill which was voted into law last November through a ballot initiative that was years in the making. WBUR shared some key points that those interested in keeping marijuana safe and legal in the state should know.
1 – The law calls for marijuana to have a maximum tax rate of 20 percent, up from a maximum 12 percent rate outlined in the voter-passed ballot question. While this is more than the ballot initiative outlined it is in line with other states that are selling marijuana for recreational use.
2 – The Cannabis Control Commission was originally outlined as a three-person panel, with its members all appointed by the state treasurer. Now, it’s five members, and the governor and the attorney general have appointment authority as well. The three officials have to select these five commissioners by Sept. 1st.
3 – The compromise bill makes no changes to the existing law governing the home cultivation of cannabis plants for personal use. Every adult over 21 can grow up to six plants in their home, with a maximum of 12 plants per household.
4 – Although marijuana has been legal for adults in Massachusetts since December, there are no retail establishments selling recreational pot. That changes July 1, 2018, when shops can open.
5 – Perhaps the most controversial change is changes to the process by which a city or town in Massachusetts can ban forthcoming retail marijuana shops. The original law said the decision rested with an individual community’s voters, but this bill says if your municipality voted for marijuana on November’s ballot measure, a question of banning or limiting pot businesses has to be put to a voter referendum. If your town or city voted against marijuana, then the decision rests with the local governing authority, like a city council or board of selectmen.
For the record more than 60% of voters in Boston and approximately 70% of voters in Cambridge and Somerville voted to legalize marijuana so this issue hopefully won’t be held up by our Mayor or selectmen.
