Tom Goss acoustic cover of Can’t Hold Us
I’ve never met Tom Goss, but I’ve been smitten for quite a while. Every time I watch him in an interview or on Youtube I can’t help but smile. He seems like such a great guy. If you’re not familiar with Tom Goss, check out his acoustic cover of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis song, Can’t Hold Us.
You can see Tom in person Bear Week in Ptown this summer when he performs at The Crown & Anchor on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. For more details about his show and to purchase tickets visit the event page at The Crown & Anchor, here.
A majority of Americans believe a business should not be able to refuse service to LGBT community
The conservative Christian base of the Republican Party clearly wants to have a fight over what it calls “Religious Freedom” in the upcoming election cycle. No longer able to defend their flawed logic on why same sex couples will destroy the institution of marriage they’ve moved on claiming their 1st Amendment rights are being infringed.
I’m not going to address that equally flawed logic in this post, but I am going to share that I was happy to see the results of last Thursday’s Reuters/Ispsos poll, which found that a majority (54%) of Americans believe businesses should not be allowed to refuse services based on their religious beliefs. I believe this trumped up issue of “religious freedom” is going to be repeatedly used by conservative Christians to shape the Republican primary in an attempt to dupe the public into thinking the community that is being discriminated against (the LGBT community) is somehow at fault.
Sanctuary in the city

Although Boston isn’t quite there yet, spring is definitely in the air and it is a beautifully sunny day in Boston. This courtyard in the McKim building of the Boston Public Library (BPL) is one of my favorite places to enjoy in good weather. The BPL courtyard (open to the public) is surrounded by an arcade that reminds me of architecture more often found in Europe than the US and is the perfect place to get away from all the noise and nonsense in one’s life.
Whenever visitors come to Boston, I bring them to the BPL. It isn’t on a lot of tourists radar but everyone I bring here leaves both impressed and glad they stopped by. If you have time be sure to also walk upstairs to check out the John Singer Sargent’s murals.

Boston ranked 3rd most walkable city in America
Earlier this week Boston was once again ranked as one of America’s most walkable cities. I suppose the only real surprise in this ranking is that San Francisco ranked so high (ranked #2 behind New York City). While San Francisco is a beautiful city and one that is relatively easy to walk around, I would think the hilly topography would make it difficult for anyone with disabilities and or who may be older.
This annual ranking by RedFin, consistently ranks Boston as one of America’s most walkable cities. Some of the other cities that scored well in addition to #1 – NYC, #2 San Francisco and #3 Boston, included: Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago, Washington DC, Seattle, Oakland and Baltimore.

The Art House Ptown 2015 summer line up
Do you have plans to visit Provincetown this summer? No trip would be complete without taking in at least one show. This tiny town at the tip of the Cape has fantastic live performances ranging from Broadway stars to rising stars. The Provincetown Art House is one of the main theatrical venues worth checking out.
Bookmark their site and check back over the next few weeks as more performers and performances are added. Because the venue is small, shows sell out fast so I suggest you reserve tickets for a show or two before you arrive in Ptown.
Here is a partial listing of some of the shows at The Art House this summer.
Described as Designing Women meets The Golden Gals a new production returns to The Art House this summer.
We enjoyed last year’s production so much I’m certain we’ll be back again. Starring Varla Jean Merman and Ryan Landry, performances start on May 23 and run through September 5th.
Australian drag queen, pop singer and entertainer, Courtney Act, will be taking up residence this summer in Provincetown with her show Boys Like Me.
This Ru Paul Drag Race alumnus will be performing in Ptown June 30th through August 20th so get your tickets while they last.
Check it out RuPaul Drag Race fans. Season Six winner, Bianca Del Rio, comes to Provincetown this summer with her show Rolodex of Hate.
This show is certain to sell out so get your tickets in advance – especially if you will be staying during peak weeks like Carnival. Ms. Del Rio will be performing from August 9th through September 3rd at The Art House.
Thoroughly Muslim Millie opens tonight
Ryan Landry and the Gold Dust Orphans open with their latest musical, Thoroughly Muslim Millie, later tonight at the Ramrod Performing Arts Center.
If you cannot check out the show tonight or opening weekend, fear not since the musical will run through May 10th.
Thoroughly Muslim Millie is about a young girl from a Canadian convent who is thrust across the border into the Middle East and straight into the arms of the Prince of Persia! The musical parody explodes across the stage with big splashy songs, tap dancing Talibans, and bawdy “Burqa Ladies”.
Thoroughly Muslim Millie runs from April 9th – May 10th get your tickets here.
Why “religious freedom” is code for discriminating against the LGBT community
Earlier this week I wrote a post, Why the “Religious Freedom” discussion is both disingenuous and dangerous. Considering the fact that those most obsessed with the need to protect “religious freedom” are also some of our country’s most homophobic political leaders should make you think. Couple that with the fact that the discussion is a reaction to marriage equality laws and one need not be Sherlock Holmes to read these clues.
This latest debate on ‘religious freedom’ is nothing more than an escape clause for homophobic business owners to refuse service to the LGBT community. If Christian business owners were really concerned (for their immortal soul) about having to serve people who violated their religious convictions then why are they serving customers who are divorced, practice a different religion, known adulterers or liars (and the list continues)? Why is it that only the LGBT community that seems to be causing this crises of conscious? It is because they are bigots using religion as a shield to disguise and and confuse the debate.
Did you know that divorce is identified as a sin approximately two dozen times in the Bible? By contrast homosexuality is discussed less than ten times so why is divorce not considered twice the sin of homosexuality? These devout Christians should be focused on all the divorcées in their community who have made a mockery of “traditional marriage”, which they supposedly hold so dear.
The Bible is riddled with all sorts of “sins” like getting your hair cut, eating shellfish, getting a tattoo, etc… yet these behaviors don’t seem to offend the supposedly ‘devout’ Christian business owners. It seems to me if religious freedom is being called into question then only business owners who truly observe every tenant of their faith should be allowed to claim this need for an exemption. For all those who are picking and choosing their religious convictions, it sounds more like an excuse to get the government to approve discrimination – and that is unconstitutional.
