I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price.  Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Tears of shame for the shameless

gun controlI disagree with the modern interpretation of the United States’ second amendment, and I’m painfully aware of how out of step I am with the majority of Americans  on this issue.  As much as the tragedy in Orlando breaks my heart (and it really does), something changed in how I view my country after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre so while this tragedy infuriates me and I agree with the Daily News cover – I have come to expect so little from my country and even less from my politicians that all I have left are tears of shame.

Beer Garden on the Bricks (tonight 5-7:30 pm)

Beer Garden on the BricksIn case you missed this in my blog post on Monday “What to do this week”, I wanted to remind you to head over to City Hall Plaza for an after work drink.

Today, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Mayor Marty Walsh will host “Beer Garden on the Bricks,” a summer kickoff, featuring a beer garden, food and entertainment. A selection of local craft beers will be on hand, including offerings from Slumbrew and Aeronaut. And Roxy’s Grilled Cheese and Double Chin will be serving up the food, along with some yet to be named vendors. For more information and details click, here.

Word of the day: Daddy

Boston GuyI like to think of my blog as an important, educational site that can help you expand your vocabulary.  Today’s vocabulary word is Daddy.

Daddy (ˈdadē/noun
Definition: A typically older, financially established gay man.
Example: If you want to find yourself a daddy perhaps you should check out “Daddy Days” in Provincetown August 25 – 28th this year.

Caption this photo

sports, baseball, funny, humorEach Wednesday morning I post a photograph and ask readers to offer a funny caption.  Hopefully the caption below inspires you to share a few of your own.

Sign of the times

love is greater than hate, religionAs is so often the case with important messages, those who need to read or hear them turn a blind eye or deaf ear. However, when DJ Michael tweeted out this photo today, I couldn’t resist piling on by sharing as well. I only hope that the understandable anger and frustration that has come out of Orlando tragedy will be directed into more positive actions that will help heal and bring hope.

If you happen to be in Provincetown today, it is Tea Time.

Modus Vivendi: Rainbow Line swimwear

MV-RainbowLine-CampaignBannersModus Vivendi has been on a tear lately, and their most recent Rainbow Line shot in Cuba was hard for me (and I’m assuming you as well) to overlook.

The new color blocking swimwear line is available in eight different color combinations that are made from fast drying, high quality material. The classic brief cuts have cleverly designed backs to accentuate the positive (so to speak).

Boston Gay Men’s book club meets Monday, June 20

gay literature, Boston LGBT book clubLooking for an alternative to bars? Boston’s Gay Men’s Book Club which meets each month at the Trident Booksellers and Cafe might be the perfect option. Each month this group gathers to socialize and discuss a different book in one of my favorite bookshops in Boston.

Next Monday this group will reconvene in the Back Bay to talk about the 2014 fictionalized biography of E.M. Forster, Arctic Summer by Damon Galgut.  The New York Times’ Thomas Mallon wrote this piece in praise of the book back in September 2014, “A Closet With a View”

All are welcome to join when the group meets on Monday, June 20th at 7:00 PM at the Trident Booksellers and Cafe located near Mass Ave at 338 Newbury Street.  Be sure to sign up to the “Meet Up” group and RSVP, here.

You can purchase a copy of the book on Amazon here.

Work, work, work….

flightright.com, flightrightMy job has been pretty intense lately and as this post goes live I’m about 30,000 feet above ground heading over to the Left Coast for the week. That combined with the fact that what little free time I had last week was spent enjoying Boston Pride means posting may be thin this week and my ability to respond to questions and comments will be limited.  Thanks for your patience with me.

Mass shooting at gay club in Orlando

Pulse Nightclub OrlandoBy the time this publishes most of you will have heard about the mass shooting at the gay club in Orlando called Pulse and maybe there will be more information. According to accounts from the scene, the gunman traded gunfire with police officer before entering Pulse at 2 a.m.

Most of the estimated 320 people inside escaped, but an unknown number were taken hostage in a bathroom. Current reports indicate 20 were killed and 42 injured. What a sad way to close out Boston Pride.

More information available on CNN here.
