The November Project Wednesday morning workout at Harvard

The November Project Wednesday morning workout at Harvard

Warmer weather in Boston means that staying fit is definitely cheaper. Group workouts are offered throughout the city weekday mornings and evenings and they are open to the public and free. Below are a few suggestions so get off your butt and check out one or more of these classes.

Esplanade and DCR Hatch Shell has many classes in the evening including Zumba every Tuesday, Yoga every Wednesday and CrossFit classes each Thursday, but note most of these classes do not begin until next month.

Frog Pond at the Boston Common is currently hosting yoga classes every Thursday at 6PM through September 1 by the carousel.  Bring your own mat and blocks if you can.

Post Office Square (a.k.a. Norman B. Levanthal Park) hosts morning and evening workouts that are free to the public.  Weekday workouts start daily on Monday, June 20th and include bootcamp, pilates, yoga and zumba. For the full schedule, please click here.

Rose Kennedy Greenway is hosting free boot camp classes every Wednesday at 6PM for all levels at the intersection for Cross and Hanover Street courtesy of Next Level Fitness.

November Project: Work out with a positive support group every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for free workouts through the November Project.

Free Run Clubs in Boston are so plentiful it would be an entire post just listing all the clubs. Check out the link and pick a club that is convenient for you.

This post only lists a handful of the free fitness classes that will be available this summer. You can view and print the full Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series 2016 brochure here.

Opus Affair cocktails at Cinquecento, Monday, June 20

cinquecento patio barTomorrow, Monday, June 20 Opus Affair heads over to my favorite patio bar at Cinquecento in the South End (the restaurant also has free parking). Join them as they play host to a friendly crowd mostly comprised of 20-, 30- and 40-somethings at their monthly cocktail social which runs from 6pm – 9pm.

Unfamiliar with Opus Affair? The group is comprised of a mix of artists and art appreciators who get together each month for cocktails and to chat about the arts scene in Boston or whatever else comes to mind. Some people come for serious networking, others come for fun. There’s no agenda—just a chance to have a few drinks with other like-minded folks.

Happy father’s day

DadI wanted to take a moment to acknowledge my father (shown above) on this special day and say a word of thanks to my brother, Timothy, and brother-in-law, Travis, for being such amazing fathers to their children.  My brother-in-law, Brett, will soon experience fatherhood as well and will be a great dad too.

This post is really dedicated to all the fathers who understand how much their children need them in their lives and for the sacrifices they make to ensure their children always feel loved and supported. It is a job with few holidays and that requires an infinite amount of patience and understanding.

Donkey Show at the Oberon

TheaterAre you looking for something fun to do next weekend? Join The Welcoming Committee when they head back to the Oberon Theater for a takeover of The Donkey Show.

Unfamiliar with The Donkey Show? It is a disco adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and is a long-running glitter-filled show hosted at the Oberon Theater in Harvard Square.  The show is an absolute blast. Sergio and I joined TWC back in 2013 and I still smile when I think about all the fun we had. Oberon Theater Donkey ShowThis annual TWC event always sells out so take advantage of their  limited number of discounted tickets ($5 off the public price). For more information about the program and how to get your discounted tickets, visit TWC’s event page, Donkey Show Takeover.

Equality For All Americans

Equality for All Americans NowMy good friend wrote a call to action blog post earlier this week in reaction to the violence in Orlando last weekend and I wanted to share it.

Read and share: You Think You Know.

You Think You KnowFACT: One of the survivors of the Orlando shooting could be fired from their job or kicked out of their apartment simply for being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. Throughout most of Florida, it is legal to fire someone or deny them access to housing or public accommodations because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT).

Sign language

sign language, grammarWhile attending a work dinner in San Francisco, I had to go to the bathroom. I will admit I was more than a little surprised to see this sign. While I know exactly what they mean, I can’t help but think “shame on you.”

I was a bit dumbfounded and wondered does the manager think that this is the plural for the word man or have apostrophes become passé in California?
