Liza Minnelli will NOT join Alan Cumming in Provincetown August 4th
Liza Minnelli will not join Alan Cumming for their August 4 performance in Provincetown. According to the Crown & Anchor page, Ms. Minnelli is prohibited from traveling until she regains her health. Alan Cumming will perform his sold-out one man show and be accompanied by Emmy Award winning composer/pianist Lance Horne. Gay flick: Trick
Fifteeen years ago the gay flick, Trick, came out. I loved this movie that starred Neve Campbell’s adorable younger brother, Christian Campbell, and the object of his desire, a go-go boy, played by J.P. Pitoc.
The movie has more than its share of awkward and funny scenes (Ms. Coco Peru’s bathroom scene comes to mind as does Tori Spelling’s meltdown at a diner).
Thinking about Trick made me start to mentally compile a list of gay films I enjoyed. What are some of your favorite gay-themed movies?
Sydney is such a seductress
As I was perusing Facebook yesterday I stumbled upon this breathtaking photograph of the Sydney Opera House at sunset. It reminded me how much I loved Sydney (and all of Australia) when Sergio and I visited back in November and December of 2009. I wrote about that trip quite a bit. Joyful Noise Friday, August 1st
Tomorrow night The Boston Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are performing a cabaret review called Joyful Noise to promote local talent and raise funds for the Boston Sisters’ Community Grant Fund.

Stata Center sunset
Last night @hopelandry posted this photograph of the sunset. For those not from the area, the Stata Center is an academic complex designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Frank Gehry for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I think the image is beautiful.
Travel tip when visiting Paris
Paris is one of my favorite cities in the world so when I read a recent article on Huffington Post Travel, I knew I wanted to share it.
While I love the view of Paris from the Eiffel Tower, I think when Sergio and I next visit, we’ll likely skip the inevitable long line and head out to Tour Montparnesse; a massive skyscraper less than two miles from the Eiffel Tower that has an open air terrace on the 56th floor – some 650 feet above the city’s skyline. There are a number of conservative commentators who continue to receive a fair amount of mainstream (and left-leaning) media attention, virtually every time they open their mouth and I’m left scratching my head to wonder why. Their views are documented, no longer shocking and frankly uninteresting.
Shy of them saying they believe in science, nothing they say is either surprising or newsworthy anymore so don’t pretend it is and stop giving them the attention they crave. It is annoying.
I firmly believe that if they were no longer given air time (aside from that already provided on their talk radio shows and other conservative outlets like FOX News) they would quickly fade into obscurity. Whatever they once were, they are now essentially ratings whores looking for attention and saying whatever they think might create outrage and get them on major news networks. So can we just stop talking about them – that goes especially for left-leaning sites like MSNBC, Huffington Post, etc…

Restaurant review: Jack the Horse Tavern
Last week I was able to have dinner in Brooklyn Heights and a friend who grew up in the neighborhood took me to Jack the Horse Tavern. I was taken with the converted storefront from the moment I stepped inside; exposed brick, comfortable seating and a warm buzz coming from the neighborhood bar come together to create a fantastic vibe.
The menu includes approximately a half dozen salads and starters ranging from $9-$13 and a protein rich menu that is evenly balanced between land and sea options ranging from $16-$26.
I started my dinner with the Green & Red Baby Lettuce which included Manchego cheese, marinated plums and a Riesling Vinaigrette & Rosemary croutons. The salad was light and refreshing which was exactly what I wanted.
After our first course was cleared, I was served the house duck plate which came highly recommended by our waiter. The meal didn’t disappoint and I’d strongly recommend it to anyone who likes duck. The duck was served on a bed of farro with dried cherries almonds and leeks. Every fork was laden with farro and duck dipped in the sweet cherry-almond coulis.
Since my colleagues all indulged in dessert, I opted to join them with another glass of the delicious Italian red we were sharing, Acquagiusta(I’d never heard of it previously but I’ll be asking my local wineshop – Brix – about it) and ordered the cheese plate. I wish I had taken notes when the chef came out to tell us about the five cheeses but I was still thinking about he duck I’d just finished. However, the meal ended equally satisfactory and my dessert became a communal plate that everyone tried and enjoyed.
Jack the Horse Tavern is located at 66 Hicks Street in Brooklyn Heights. It is worth venturing out from Manhattan to try. After dinner stroll along Brooklyn Heights Promenade to ward off the inevitable self-induced food coma.
Hunks in Trunks at Manhunt Mansion on Saturday
This Saturday the New England Valkyries are hosting their annual fundraiser at the Manhunt Mansion from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Admission to the pool party / fundraiser is $30.
