Francesca’s Cafe is closing, after serving the South End for nearly 20 years from their cozy home on the corner of Union Park and Tremont Street. Earlier this afternoon I spoke to the staff and they confirmed Francesca’s closing. There is no word if the owner plans to reopen in another location.
In March I reported rumors about a pending close in my post Francesca’s Cafe South End. I speculated Francesca’s days may be numbered after South End resident, Fredmond Kiley IV, quietly purchased the building in what was rumored to be a cash deal.
Time will tell if this is the final chapter for Francesca’s or if the owners will look for another space to reopen. I’d love to suggest they look at the 7-Eleven space that will be closing at 1306 Washington Street in SoWa later this year. Time will also tell what the landlord will do with this prime real estate – rumor has it he’d like a high end restaurant or cafe.
If you are not one of the tens of thousands moving out of your apartment on August 31st, you may want to head down to Boston’s waterfront. Earlier this week Mayor Menino announced the return of summertime public fireworks on the waterfront.
Saturday, August 31st at 9:00 pm
The fireworks will be a highlight of the city-sponsored Boston Arts Festival which runs from Saturday, August 31 to Sunday, September 1 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Christopher Columbus Park.
Earlier this summer Christina Bianco sang Bonnie Tyler’s 1980s hit ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart‘ at 54 Below – a Midtown cabaret bar in NYC. Unlike past covers you may have heard, Christina sings the Bonnie Tyler hit as nearly 20 different divas. Check it out. She impersonates some divas better than others but I have to give her props.

I’ve enjoyed watching comedian, Ross Mathews, since he first appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2001 as “Ross the Intern”. Since then he has appeared on a variety of television shows, but is most regularly seen on the funny Chelsea Lately show on E TV.
Starting next month Ross Matthews will have his self-titled show, Hello Ross, also on E TV. The show will feature Ross talking about – what else? – but pop culture. As I said, I’m a fan of this funny guy and if you are too then you may want to check out Metro Source magazine interview of Ross which you can read here.
