Will you support Jacob by sharing his message?

homosexualityThis image is making the rounds on Facebook.  It was actually my friend David over at Wicked Gay Blog who brought this to my attention.  Upon reading it I shared it on my Facebook page with the comment “Jacob you are not broken, you are not confused and the only people who need to be fixed are the people who are telling you those lies.

Incidentally by “fixed” I mean that in the neuter or spade reference one often hears about pets. I would be so very pleased if you would swipe this image from my blog and also post it along with your sentiments – whether you echo my message or create one of your own.  If Jacob is brave enough to tell a panel of heterosexual men and women in the NJ Senate that he doesn’t need to be fixed, wouldn’t you agree the least you could do is echo his thoughts by sharing his message through whatever social media channels you prefer?

Tweet of the Day: Richard Branson

Tweet of the DayWhile the US Congress continues to do nothing meaningful with regards to passing gun control legislation, Richard Branson took to Twitter to taunt their inaction. No doubt some of you will recognize the cadence of his tweet, which echoes the taunts hurled at President Johnson during Vietnam war protests.

Thanks to Joe.My.God for the tip.

Americans support for same-sex marriage grows

marriage equalityLast year President Obama made history when he became the 1st sitting US President to support same-sex marriage.  At that time he indicated that his views pertaining to this issue had “evolved”.  Obama’s “evolution” isn’t unique.  Last week it was reported by a number of news outlets that Pew Research polls has tracked support of same-sex marriage since 2001 and Obama’s change of heart is consistent with most Americans.

Pew found that support for same-sex marriage among Democrats increased nearly 20% from 43% in 2001 to 62% in 2012. Among Independents there has been a similar but less dramatic rise from 43% in 2001 to 52% in 2012. However, Republican voter opinions have barely budged with 21% in 2001 to 25% in 2012 supporting same-sex marriage.

As an individual who would like to see same-sex marriage become recognized by the federal government, I hope that more Republicans realize they are on the wrong side of history and will be more receptive to a more inclusive society that doesn’t discriminate against individuals because of their orientation.

Construction worker with big pipes

Construction workerThanks to Dwight Supremacy for posting this photo. It’s such a cliche to have a crush on construction workers, but then again I live across the street from one of Boston’s largest construction companies so I suppose I’m a walking cliche.

Game of Thrones

Rob ReinerGame of Thrones Season 3 starts at the end of March and CinestirTV has created a masterful mash up video called “The Princess Bride Promo”.

I’ll admit I’m hooked on this HBO series, and i am looking forward to the third season.  I would also rank Reiner’s fantasy parody,  The Princess Bride as an all time personal favorite movie so I couldn’t resist sharing this when I found it. Enjoy the mash up.

dejan djordjevicOn a related note, a talented friend of mine here in Boston has created his own mash up video of the movies, Mean Girls and Evil Dead.  I love his write up about the video. “When the queen bee’s reign is threatened by the new girl in school, Mia’s (Regina George) plan of attack turns sour when the Burn Book unleashes something far more sinister.”

Check out Dejan’s mash up video here.

Improper Bostonian: Unsung heroes

theaterPick up the current issue of The Improper Bostonian’s “Spring Arts Preview”. Starting on p. 49 is Jonathan Soroff’s article, Unsung Heroesthat spotlights Boston’s local performing arts scene.

The article opens “Bostonians are spoiled. A world-class orchestra playing in one of only three acoustically perfect concert halls in the world. An equally excellent ballet. Then there are the New England and Boston conservatories, the A.R.T. and the Huntington, free Shakespeare on the Common, the Celebrity Series and pre-Broadway runs at the Shubert, the Colonial, the Cutler Majestic…”

I like his boasts, but even like his article more.  It provides glimpses into ten of Boston’s performing arts organizations that are often overlooked but very worth checking out.

Best Head salon

Best HeadQuite the catchy name for this hair salon.  I believe 847 is a Cook County / Metro Chicago area code.  Anyone actually familiar with this salon?  I’m curious if you agree.
