BosGuy brain teaser

Each Friday morning I pose a riddle for those who like that sort of thing.  If you are stumped, share this with friends and colleagues, and I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out this week’s riddle.

This week’s riddle: What word starting with “BR” becomes another word that sounds exactly the same if you add the letter “E”.

I’ll confirm correct responses in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give readers out on the left coast a chance to guess as well.

If you like this sort of thing you may check out past brain teaser posts by linking here.

Free LGBT for Obama bumpersticker

LGBT I wonder if I should request a bumper sticker and affix it to my ass since I rarely drive.  Probably a bad idea… However, if you want one the Obama – Biden re-election campaign would love to send you a bumper sticker. You can request one by linking here.

Hey Pops! Would you still love me if I were gay?

Gay BullyingThis has been plastered on a building wall next to an elementary school in my neighborhood.  It is a pretty powerful message and I’m sure that is why the “post card” was so prominently posted by this school.

I assume this is an attempt to raise awareness, hopefully remind us all about bullying in schools and the need for parents to talk to their children.  I’m wondering if this is a one-off or part of a campaign that is going on in other places.

Gay Days Orlando 2012

Gay DisneyGay Days Orlando (Gay Disney)  officially kicks off tonight and runs through the weekend.  This circuit party will attract more than 150,000 gay men and women to Orlando; truly making Disney even  more gay (who knew that was even possible).

If you are heading down to this huge circuit party don’t forget to pack your red t-shirt. Oh yeah, and have fun.

Suddenly it makes sense

LacrosseI won’t even begin to pretend that I understand lacrosse which was originally played by Native Americans, but I’m starting to understand it’s appeal. I have no idea who this lacrosse player is but I feel like we could quickly become BFFs; at least I like to think that.

Its a shame they wear such bulky helmets which hide how handsome they are but I suppose if I was faced with an aggressive, testosterone laden 200 lbs man running at me with a stick I’d want to have a helmet too.  LOL, having just read that last sentence, I feel like I should immediately find out where the next game is being played in Boston.

Attitude magazine “Naked Issue”

Attitude Magazine‘s notorious “Naked Issue” is now out, and gracing the cover is none other than the retired and openly gay rugby player, Gareth Thomas. If you Google Gareth Thomas + Naked Issue you can see a bit more of Gareth than appropriate for my pg-13 rated blog.

This issue from Attitude Magazine is used to help raise awareness of the U.K.’s National AIDS Trust HIV testing campaign and in light of my posts this week regarding AIDS Walk Boston, I thought the timing couldn’t be better.

I was unable to find any “behind the scenes” videos from this year’s shoot so here is a quick video of the UK Pop Band, Blue, being photographed for the 2011 “Naked Issue”.

Fitness tips from Kris Kranzky

Long time readers know I’ve been pretty vocal about my training and personal fitness over the years so earlier this month I asked my trainer, Kris Kranzky over at the Boston Sports Club in the South End, to share some fitness tips I can post on my blog. I hope these forthcoming posts help you with your own personal fitness goals.

Find the right balance: Exercising is all about balance and if you take into consideration diet, resistance training and cardiovascular exercise you will see better results more quickly. Although this is common sense it is important to recognize how effective combining diet, resistance training and cardiovascular can be.

Jennifer Hudson to perform with Boston Pops on July 4th

Boston’s Fourth of July celebration is one of the largest in the United States and this tradition which started back in 1973 is now televised around the country, but if you live in Boston you can go down to the Esplanade park and watch this free concert with your friends.

Hudson will belt out some of her biggest hits backed by Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops orchestra.  In short, it’ll be “wicked awesome”. Don’t live in Boston? Her performance will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

Want to learn more, visit the event’s website www.july4th.org.

My apology to Syria

If you are not aware of the situation in Syria, skip this post. Similar to my post in March 2011, Libya: will Obama lead or follow, I am disappointed in both the U.S. and the U.N.

For more than a year, every atrocity in this civil war has been meticulously documented on the internet.  It is shameful that the massacres in Syria are being ignored by neighboring Arabic nations (proof that the idea of a Pan-Arab or Arabic brotherhood is crap). It is shameful that the U.S. has not done more and it is an indictment on  the irrelevance of the U.N. that this continues.

Should anyone from Syria see this post, I want you to know I’m ashamed that my nation has not done more and struggling to understand why the U.N. matters.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Ptown bound

Later this week I’ll be heading to Provincetown for the first time this summer. People who have read my blog for awhile know I have a torrid love affair with this tiny town at the tip of the Cape (Cape Cod).  Each summer I spend as much time as I can escaping to this community.

Never been to Provincetown? I found this video from here tv which was featuring gay and lesbian travel destinations a few years ago. The video does a decent job showing all that Provincetown has to offer.

Boston AIDS walk and 5k run: June 3rd

AIDS Action CommitteeThis Sunday The AIDS Action Committee (AAC) will host Boston’s 26th AIDS Walk.  This event which draws thousands has been held the first Sunday of June since 1986 and it serves a dual purpose; first it raises large sums of unrestricted money to allow AAC to better serve its mission; second it raises awareness within our community.

AIDSWalkBoston.org

Unfortunately, this year I will not be able to  attend the event, but I will be sending a donation to the AAC. I would ask you to consider doing the same if you will not be attending this event.

Why is it important to keep walking?

Every 9.5 minutes someone in the US is infected with HIV.

AAC makes participating in the walk very easy.  You can log online at AIDSWalkBoston.org and sponsor yourself then join everyone down at the DCR Hatch Shell along the Esplanade.

Check out these Boston theater performances

SpeakEasy Stage, Lyric Stage, Huntington TheaterHere are a few worthwhile theater performances from some of Boston’s local theater companies. Support your community’s local theater scene and plan an evening with friends to see a show.  Select the links below to learn more about each performance and to purchase tickets.

Support Boston’s Local Theater Companies

Xanadu – SpeakEasy Stage Co. – This  fun performance elevates “camp” and will leave you humming familiar Olivia Newton John songs from the early 80s all the while laughing heartily with friends.  In my opinion its the surprise show of the summer, which I give “two glow sticks up.”  See the show and you’ll understand my reference. Xanadu closes on June 9th.

Private Lives – Huntington Theater Co – Can you imagine bumping into your former spouse while away on your second honeymoon? Neither can I but that’s the premise of this hilarious production which will run through June 24th

Avenue Q – Lyric Stage Co. of Boston – Have you never seen this popular Broadway musical, best described as Seasame Street for adults?  This show has fantastically funny songs like The Internet is for Porn, and will leave you laughing out loud. Due to demand, this show has been extended and will run through July 1st.

Temptation Tuesday

Tuesday TemptationI have no idea who this guy is, but I’d like to thank @SaulCanchola for sharing this photo. I think he’s incredibly tempting and does justice to the post’s name. For those returning, after a long holiday weekend in the US, I hope this gives you that jolt you need to start your day.
