Fisher Price Happy Hour Playset

humorI love this fictitious Fisher Price “Happy Hour Playset”, that comes with bar, bar stools and beer bottles. I think my favorite part of this is the face of the bartender who looks like he may very well grow up to be a bartender.

Lebron James wears a safety pin in SI photo shoot

safety pin, sportsperson of the yearLast week the Lebron James cover for Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsperson of the Year” came out and while this normally wouldn’t warrant attention on my part, my brother pointed out that Lebron wore an over sized safety pin for the shoot.

ESPN took notice of the accessory and as well and wrote, “No, James isn’t suffering some sort of wardrobe malfunction. Since last month’s presidential election, the safety pin has become a symbol of solidarity with those Americans who fear they’ll be disenfranchised by a Donald Trump presidency. The pin is intended to show that the wearer is a safe person to turn to.”

Bravo and thank you Lebron James.

Tom of Finland biopic opens in February 2017

gay eroticism, David Grant, Touko LaaksonenDo you recognize the name Touko Laaksonen? Perhaps not, but his drawings have become collectibles and his Tom of Finland drawings are iconic in the gay community.  Earlier this week the full trailer for Tom of Finland was released.

The video gives us a glimpse of the biopic, that explores the life of Laaksonen, a.k.a Tom of Finland, whose unapologetic drawings shattered taboos and showcased gay male eroticism in a way it never was before and has not been seen since. The Finnish-language biopic, directed by Dome Karukoski and starring Pekka Strang, is scheduled for release in early 2017.

Boston Tea Party happened 243 years ago today

kennedy-tea-partyDid you know that on December 16, 1773 (some 243 years ago) a bunch of fed up colonists from Massachusetts dressed like Native Americans and snuck aboard a ship to dump tea into Boston harbor as a way to protest their frustrations with the British Monarchy?

Although it has nothing to do with the protest, I prefer this image of one of my favorite Presidents, having a tea party of another sort with his daughter.  I find both the history of the Tea Party as well as the image of President John Kennedy very inspiring, and these days I’m looking for inspiration wherever I can find it.

G Lounge in Chelsea will close at end of the year

Chelsea, gay bars NYC

Source: G Lounge Facebook page

Yesterday Kennethinthe212 blog posted that the popular gay bar G Lounge in Chelsea will be closing at the end of this year. I have some fun memories navigating my way around the bar and was sorry to hear that the popular bar would be closing.  Kenneth writes:

I just confirmed this with G Lounge, a gay-bar staple in Chelsea for 20 years. I first heard rumblings about G closing in early 2014, but then was told I was wrong in 2015. Sadly, I wasn’t. The bar — which signed a confident 20-year lease when it opened in 1996 — seemed to remain vibrant as Splash, Rawhide, The Break, Champs, View Bar and others faded away. Sad to hear a place that played such a big role in my life is coming to an end, even if it had ended in my actual life many years ago.

Read this funny conversation Kenneth’s friend had via text when he learned of G Lounge’s imminent closing. I think we can all agree with his friends sentiments.
