Shirtless superheroes illustrated by Fab

Fab, gay superhero Hyper masculine representations of Superheroes fuel the imaginations of many gay men. If you have any doubt, check out my 2014 Provincetown video of Carnival when the theme was Comic Book Superheroes.  An illustrator who goes by the name Fab has re-imagined what superheroes might look like without their shirts in poses more appropriate for a photo shoot.

Like what you see? Follow Fab on Instagram, TwitterFacebook and Tumblr. Be advised that Fab’s Tumblr account seems to be where he posts his uncensored NSFW illustrations. Much thanks to Oscar and his blog confessionsofaboytoy.com for initially sharing Fab’s engaging illustrations.  fab, gay superhero

Later this week the MFA Boston launches simultaneous exhibits that will appeal to all the fashionistas in town. American illustrator, Kenneth Paul Block, and Japanese photographer, Hiro, who both hit their peak in the 1950s and helped to shape the look of such influential journals as Women’s Wear Daily and Harper’s Bazaar.

Although the MFA exhibit focuses primarily on their fashion work, even the most style-unconscious will appreciate how these two artists shaped the aesthetic of the past century.

Brokeback Mountain opened in theaters 10 years ago today

Gay movie, Ang Lee, Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath LedgerTen years ago today Ang Lee’s movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, Randy Quaid, Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway was released.

While I’m not a huge fan of Cowboy movies, the heartbreaking romance did draw me in.  To put this in perspective, when Brokeback Mountain was released back in 2005, Gallup found that only 36% of Americans were in favor of marriage equality and same sex marriage was only legal in Massachusetts. I think movies like Brokeback Mountain challenged perceptions about what it means to be gay and as the image above says, “love is a force of nature” that brings us together.

#GOPdildo

GOPdildo, gun control, NRAIt may be juvenile and it may be crass but I love this new Tumblr site that is taking images of politicians proudly posing with guns and superimposing images of dildos in their hands. I’ve made my feelings perfectly clear in the past that I’m a staunch advocate for more sensible gun laws and regulations.  Until that time comes I’ll use these images to find some vestige of humor in what I think is an otherwise very serious and shameful situation in the United States.

Can South End host two Farmer’s Markets in 2016

SoWa Open MarketJust as the South End Open Market season was coming to a close, New England Open Markets announced that they would be moving to the Ink Block in 2016; I wrote about it in my blog post: South End Open Market moves to Ink Block in 2016 but Food Trucks and Farmers Market stay put.

After writing the post I was contacted by New England Open Market and was told that the entire Farmer’s Market would be moving in 2016.  This conflicted with what I had been told by vendors. They were unhappy that the Farmer’s Market would be relocated under the I-93 expressway. Last week two longtime Farmer’s Market vendors confirmed they would not follow New England Open Market and would be joined by other vendors who would prefer to remain on GTI’s property, forming a second market for the neighborhood. How the market will be rebranded or which vendors will remain is unclear but it appears that differences between Chris Masci (owner of New England Open Markets) and Mario Nicosia (GTI Properties) are irreconcilable.

Mario and GTI Properties would seemingly have the upper hand in this feud with the public already familiar with the 450 Harrison Avenue location, ample parking and space for the market sandwiched between GTI’s recently renovated 460 Harrison Ave which now includes 40 new boutiques and Vintage Market. However, my question is can our neighborhood sustain two Farmer’s Markets?

Boston’s Slutcracker runs through December 31st

SlutcrackerAre you on Santa’s Naughty List? Perhaps you should check out The Slutcracker, a Boston tradition since 2008 that is not at all family friendly. The story preserves the structure of the original ballet but the main characters have now grown-up.  A courtship and a devious Aunt Drosselmeyer set the stage for Clara’s transformation and awakening in the Kingdom of Sexual Fantasy.

The Slutcracker opened last week and runs through December 31st at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.  Tickets are just $27.00.

Young man writes on Reddit that PDA with his boyfriend makes him nervous

Earlier this month NewNowNext.com wrote about redditor, AxisXT, who wrote about how nervous he is about public displays of affection with his boyfriend; due in part because of where he lives.  Even living most of my life in a socially progressive part of the United States, I could relate.  I’ve been threatened before, and I know guys who have been beaten up – sadly, not everyone is on board with the mantra, Live and Let Live.

AxisXT wrote in his reddit post:

So me and my boyfriend have been dating for almost 9 months. I really love him and enjoy spending time with him. He’s really affectionate and I love it! But I get so nervous when he nudges me to extend my hand when we are walking in public or when he lightly drums on the table at a restaurant until I give him my hand. I’m perfectly fine when we are alone! Although I do still get nervous when we are having sex.

I’m the top and I have no idea what to do most of the time. But that’s beside the point. I just came to terms with being a bisexual male and he is my first boyfriend, so that may be a reason I get so nervous? I was wondering if you guys have any tips? I live in the deep south (Florida) and being open and myself makes me nervous. (I’m so sorry in advance if I posted this in the wrong place.)

Responses on Reddit were positive (which is good to read). Evan Ross Katz from NewNowNext.com encouraged the young man to be open and candid about his reservations with his boyfriend and reminded him that coming out is a process.

Posts like this remind me: 1 – how lucky I am to live where I do; and 2 – how important it is for all of us to be visible in our communities. While AxisXT may never be comfortable with PDA, I’m sure seeing a gay couple holding hands would make him feel more comfortable in his surroundings.
