I love good design and interesting architecture and appreciate everything from the traditional Victorian bowfront row houses that dominate Boston’s South End to more modern design like M.I.T.’s Stata Center (shown above).
Recently Curbed Boston created a map of what they refer to as “Starchitecture”, featuring some of the areas most famous designs from award winning architects. I don’t agree with all the selections but if you like architecture, you may want to check this out.

Thanks to Boston Hospitality and Tourism blog for the tip.
I don’t normally write about events on Fire Island but the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is a great and worthy organization I’m only too happy to promote. I also know a lot of guys who read this blog spend time on Fire Island so I wanted to give this fun summer party that helps raise money for GLSEN a shout out.
If you’re not going to be on Fire Island that weekend but have friends who will be – pass the post or information along to them.
Event Details Saturday, July 12 from 1-4PM 135 Beach Hill, Fire Island PinesTickets are $50: Buy your tickets here
Mr. Teddy is a full length play produced by a new LGBTQ theater company in Boston called Smartguy Productions Inc. Sergio and I are going to attend Friday’s show at Club Cafe, but tonight is opening night. Mr. Teddy will run through June 13th at Club Cafe. Tickets are available for shows on June 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 at 8PM and June 15 matinee show at 3PM.
About Mr. Teddy: Alec, Mark and Teddy found true love two years ago when Alec brought Teddy home for a three way and Teddy never left. Like everyone, Teddy comes with some baggage, namely a Teddy Bear and a desire to call Marc and Alec his “Daddies”. All is bliss until Alec’s friend, Allison, insists that Teddy is suffering delayed development and he must be pushed to grow up and leave his Daddies behind if he is ever to find true happiness. Patrick, a friend of all three men, finally sees his chance to steal Teddy away for himself. The resulting confrontations have explosive consequences for everyone involved.

If you have not purchased tickets for Pride Night at Fenway Park a great Plan B is to swing by Cathedral Station (formerly Red Fez) on their opening night. This is Boston’s newest gay sports bar. Cathedral Station has free parking, affordable drinks and a game room with plenty of TVs to cheer on the Red Sox.
Friday, June 13th: Fur & Gold Pride Edition at The Alley
I’ll confess I’m not a dancer so I’m not sure if I’ll attend but this can be a fun party with good music, affordable drinks and no attitude. This is not an official Pride event so for details check out the Fur and Gold Facebook Page.

Roasted brussel sprouts seem to be very trendy at the moment. I love roasted veggies and brussel sprouts in particular are quite nutritious; rich in protein, dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants so I thought I’d suggest this easy recipe. The prep work is very easy and if you use tinfoil you needn’t even dirty a single pan – total prep and cooking time is 40 minutes.
Start by preheating your oven to 400 degrees then soak the sprouts in salted water for a few moments to help remove any dirt. After, chop the stem and remove any discolored outer leaves. Aside from mincing a garlic clove, this is all the food prep required.
Once the brussel sprouts have been prepped you will need 1/4 cup of good extra virgin olive oil (enough to thoroughly coat the sprouts), a minced clove of garlic, a few pinches of salt and a ziploc bag that you can use to incorporate the ingredients.
Once you’ve added everything in the ziploc bag – give it a thorough shaking. You want the salt, garlic and olive oil to cover / coat the sprouts to add flavor and prevent them from drying out or burning when you roast them in the oven.
Pour out the brussel sprouts, garlic and salt into a cookie sheet lined with tinfoil (to make the clean up easier) and insert the tray into the oven at 400 F for 30 minutes. Shake / stir the sprouts every 10 minutes to help the vegetables cook more evenly. They are delicious when you take them out of the oven, but beware – they are extremely hot.
Wednesday, June 11th, Michael Labrecque is hosting Heels for Hope at BoMA Restaurant and Bar at 1415 Washington Street in the South End. The event, Heels for Hope, will honor BAGLY and include raffles and other fun for everyone who attends.
