Barbie (\ˈbär-bē\adjective)
Definition: gay men who obsess with their physique in an attempt to continually perfect how they look and model themselves after an unrealistic ideal.
Example: The bar was filled with Barbies all vying for attention and affirmation.
Each Wednesday morning I post a photograph and ask readers to offer a funny caption. Hopefully the caption below inspires you to share a few of your own.
Whispering Sweet Nothings
Recently San Francisco made news by passing a resolution, indicating they intend to remain a sanctuary city. I’m proud that Boston’s Mayor as well as mayors from several surrounding cities including Cambridge and Somerville have also repeated that they will remain a sanctuary city even if it means losing federal funding which could happen, considering President-elect Trump has pledged to move against sanctuary cities financially, saying,“We will cancel all federal funding to sanctuary cities.”
It is hard to tell what will happen, but I support Mayor Walsh on this issue. Donald Trump may have won the presidential election but he lost in a landslide here and his values are not my state’s values. I’d rather Boston work with mayors from other cities like San Francisco and New York City than compromise on this.

Does the name Natalie Elle Woods sound familiar to you? Perhaps not. She is not a politician nor is she famous, but a spur of the moment action by Natalie earlier this month has been the topic of discussion on a number of social media sites and I really want to share her story with you.
Natalie was out having dinner with a friend on November 11th when an older gentleman seated directly behind her started talking about how disgusted he was to learn his nephew was gay. According to Natalie his friends said they would pray that his nephew would be cured. Instead of getting angry or possibly intervening, Natalie said that she thought about what Michelle Obama had said at the DNC. She said she felt inspired by her words, “When they go low, we go high.” and she decided to take the high road. She called the manager over and asked if she could pay for the dinner and leave a quick note on the bill.
Did Natalie’s actions change the mind or hearts of the people who’s dinner she paid for? Probably not, but her actions have gone on to inspire others and to show how one can make a statement outside of shouting over each other and for that I think she should be commended.

The MSPCA is hoping to raise $50,000 by selling calendars of shirtless Massachusetts firemen posing with their own rescue pooches, or adoptable dogs and cats. The 2017 Massachusetts Firefighter Calendar (featuring “12 of the Bay State’s hottest firemen,” according to the MSPCA) is for sale online for $20.
Considering the price point and how some of the money goes to such a worthy charity this seems like a great gift for any upcoming Yankee Swaps you may be participating this holiday season.

Later this month be on the look out for Casey Affleck’s new film from director Kenneth Lonegran, “Manchester By the Sea”. The movie was one of the biggest breakouts from the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It is expected to score big during the Christmas holidays and just in time for the awards season.
“Manchester By the Sea” is a heartbreaking story about when Lee (Casey Affleck) is made legal guardian of his nephew Patrick (Lucas Hedges) after his father Joe (Kyle Chandler) suddenly dies. Set in a Massachusetts’ seaside North Shore town, Lee has to face his community and ex-wife Randi (Michelle Williams). Critics hailed performances from its stars, Affleck and Williams, and both have decent shots at earning an Oscar nomination.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the children’s book set in Boston, Make Way for Ducklings (1941), the MFA has created an exhibition that tracks the career of the book’s author and illustrator Robert McCloskey.
With art from Make Way for Ducklings at its center, the retrospective presents more than 50 works, including studies for other books written and illustrated by McCloskey. An exhibition highlight is the miniature bronze model for Nancy Schön’s Make Way for Ducklings sculpture, commissioned for the Boston Public Garden in 1985.
