Since we are arriving in Sergio’s hometown in Brazil today, I thought it would be appropriate to share this photograph of a handsome Brazilian.

I’m heading to Brazil later today so I may not be able to cross post on FB and Google+ while gone.
You’ll spread more than a little holiday happiness my way if you would share the posts you like on FB with your friends on my behalf while I’m away.
I do anticipate writing some posts when I am in Brazil since I will have a lot of quiet and down time but my regular activity will not resume until I return from my vacation with my in-laws after the New Year’s holiday. Enjoy this bit of Brazilian man candy who we met last year when we visited Paraty. For more photos from that trip link here.
The Welcoming Committee is encouraging you to embrace the Arts community in all its forms. They are planning a take over of Men of the Strip, a sexy dance show that will be coming to Boston’s Wilbur Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015.
While these shows tend to be overrun by middle aged suburban housewives and bachelorette parties, TWC has decided to give these dancers (and their fans) something to think about with their boldest takeover to date.
Join the takeover at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre on Saturday, Jan 3 at 7 p.m.
Normally I ask you to caption a photo for me, but last night on Top Chef New England Patriots player said it all and Eater Boston was there to tell us all about it.
Yesterday Eater Boston provided a sneak preview of a the episode that aired last night. Their title was inspired by the popular New England Patriots player who actually said “I’d eat a big sausage”. Thanks for the tip from BosGuy reader Jordan Grossi. You can read the article here.
I’m not much of a fan of holiday television specials but I could stare at listen to Michael Bublé all night.
The special, which was filmed this past October at Radio City Music Hall in New York City in on NBC at 8pm ET and will include Barbra Streisand, Ariana Grande and my personal favorite, Miss Piggy.
Merry Christmas
Today marks the start of the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah, an 8-day observance that remembers the Jewish people’s struggle for religious freedom. Eliad Cohen and I wanted to acknowledge the holiday for those who celebrates it. We hope you can spend the time with friends and family and wish you much peace and happiness.
Dan, the handsome co-owner of the South End’s best athletic shop (appropriately named SEAC – South End Athletic Co.) forward me this picture after the Santa Speedo Run, suggesting it for one of my “caption this photo” posts. Don’t disappoint Dan or me and show off how creative you are with a caption or two.
Last week USA Today published an article based on the findings of the United Health Foundation, the American Public Health Association and Partnership for Prevention. These groups publish the longest-running state-by-state analysis of our nation’s health. The good news is MA came in third and most of the states in the Northeast are among the healthiest. The bad news is the obesity rate is on the rise virtually everywhere, increasing from 27.6% to 29.4% of adults.
Obesity is a leading contributor to death – more than doubling over the last 25 – and it is closely tied to chronic, costly diseases including diabetes and high blood pressure. It seems to me the best way for us to lower our healthcare costs over the long run is to get away from prescribing pills and start demanding patients get active; mandating 30-60 minutes of supervised activity from personal trainers and nutritionists 4-5 times per week but that common sense approach which has more cost up front isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.
See where your state ranks in this annual study.
Note Washington, D.C. was not ranked. Read the article in USA Today, here.
It has been quite awhile since I last wrote a restaurant review of The Aquitaine Group’s Cinquecento, but earlier this month Sergio and I grabbed dinner at the bar and we had such a good time I wanted to write about it.
Cinquecento has been successful since first opening in 2012. It probably helps that they have ample free parking, a nice patio (for the warmer months) and is easily accessible from the Mass Pike and I-93. However, that only gets you so far if you don’t have good staff and a talented kitchen – fortunately they have it all.
The menu is exclusively Italian as you might imagine with antipasti, soups and salads ranging in price from $10-$17; homemade pastas $22-$29; fish & meat plates $26-$38. On our recent visit we started dinner with the Burrata con Pistachio ($13.75) as well as the Steak Tartar ($15.75). The Burrata was cool and creamy and paired nicely with the soft figs, creating a surprisingly nice combination of sweet and creamy textures and flavors.
However, I was most surprised by the Steak Tartar that was recommended. The cubed steak was savory and would make for a great option if you want to come in for a snack. The plate would pair equally well with wine or beer.
For dinner Sergio ordered one of his favorite plates, the house made Gnocchi ($24.50) which is shown above, and I splurged, ordering the Aragosta Arrosto ($38.50) shown below. I had thought I was ordering the lobster and pasta in a fra diavolo sauce but the Aragosta Arrosto was more flavorful than spicy with only a hint of pepper. Those looking for more heat to the sauce should probably make such a request when ordering. Having said that, the dinner exceeded my expectations. There was plenty of lobster from the tail and it was cooked perfectly. The pairing of the rich sauce, lobster meat and homemade pasta was so good that Sergio repeatedly poached food from my plate when I wasn’t looking.
If you would like to try Cinquecento, I highly recommend making reservations for dinner on weekends. On weekdays you can usually get seats easily enough as a walk in at the bar or in the dining room. Cinquecento is located at 500 Harrison Avenue in the South End.

TRX is one tool that every fitness freak should have in their gym bag. Due to its unique stimulus and ease in which you can adjust the difficulty of each exercise, I have made the TRX one of my got-to tools in workouts for clients and myself. TRX is unique in that you can hit every part of your body and scale each exercise in difficulty without adding an additional load or more tools.
This also makes for the perfect stocking stuffer and can help hold us to our cliche new years resolutions to eat better and work out more in the New Year. (Expect some TRX workouts/challenges to be posted in the future.)

Last week Curbed Boston posted this image from the Collaborative Companies which shows the average condo sales prices per square foot in a number of Boston neighborhoods and surrounding towns.
Laura Ahmes-Gollinger from the Collaborative Companies explains in the post how this is impacting younger would-be buyers and renters,”The effect of this migration causes a gentrification of these neighborhoods as these new buyers (and renters) demand the residential infrastructure necessary to support their live/work/play convenient urban lifestyles. Somerville is a great example of this with the huge foodie scene, extension of the green line in planning, and the major plans for development and residential housing that we will see in the coming years. In contrast, foreign buyers and empty-nesters will continue to live in the heart of the city and are willing to pay high prices for these amenity-rich, full-service, maintenance-free lifestyles.”
The map makes Southie still look like a deal – that is if you can still find any since inventory is snapped up in hours. You can read the full article here.
