The Boston Summer Arts Weekend starts this Friday. The weekend celebration will showcase and blend both the Boston art community as well as nationally recognized musicians, actors and artists.
Most of the three-day festival can be enjoyed in Copley Square, but additional locations will also host artists and events open to the public. Suzanne Vega (show above) will be one of many performing Saturday, July 28th. For more information about The Boston Summer Arts Weekend, visit the event’s website.
I occasionally blog about my attempts to get into better shape and struggles with remaining motivated. Starting last week my trainer and I changed my work out routine.
In lieu of meeting twice a week for a one hour we will now meet three times a week. Once a week we will have a one hour session focusing on my back and chest, and twice a week we shall meet for thirty minutes; one session will focus on arms and one session will focus on shoulders.
I like the idea of splitting one of my one hour sessions. In theory, this will make sure that these muscle groups will get more attention. As time permits, I’m hoping to incorporate cardio either before or after the shorter work outs. I’ll let you know how it works out. What are you doing? Any tips or suggestions are always welcome.
Weather in Provincetown this past weekend was picture perfect with plenty of sun and warmth as well as lots of nice guys. Here I am with Chris Nogiec a certified strength and conditioning specialist who is studying for his Ph.D. in Computational Metabolism (ABD). We spent part of Tea Dance chatting and enjoying the day.
Have a crush on this former Men of Twitter or just looking for more handsome guys to follow on Twitter? Follow Chris at @ChrisNogiec.
Earlier this month, I included a picture urging people not to support Chick-fil-A because of their opposition to same sex marriage. The company has made significant donations to homophobic organizations like Exodus and The Family Research Council.
Trying to be sensitive to all you who LOVE fried chicken sandwiches, I thought I would share this video of Hilah Johnson. It’s a legit video and one you will appreciate if you are a fried chicken lover. I love the start of the video when Hilah says, “When’s the best time for a fried chicken sandwich? Sunday morning. Who’s closed on Sunday? Chick-fil-A!
The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company returns to the Boston Common with their 17th production of Shakespeare on the Common, on Wednesday, July 25th. Performances will run through Sunday, August 12th.
This year the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company production is Coriolanus. Not familiar with this play written between 1605 – 1608? Neither am I but the play is based on the life of the legendary Roman leader, Caius Marcius Coriolanus.
Typical of Shakespearean plays, Coriolanus includes themes of betrayal and vengeance. Interestingly, Hollywood has recently produced a modern interpretation of the 400+ year story and the movie includes acting heavyweights Gerard Butler, Ralph Fiennes (who also directs the movie), Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox.
Check out the trailer for the movie to get a feel for the storyline then plan an evening to come down and enjoy this free gift The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company so generously gives to the city. It is an excellent way to spend an evening with friends and support Boston’s local theater scene. More information can be found here.
Everywhere I turn, I feel as if I hear people talking about Azealia Banks. She definitely has a catchy delivery and I can’t get the shouting / rapping style unique to her out of my head.
Are you a fan of Azealia Banks? If you’re not familiar with her, be warned the lyrics aren’t appropriate for children or in a place of business.
I have this very same pair of underwear and they look nothing like this when I wear them! Thanks David for sharing this photo on your blog, H.A.F. Now I need to get busy planning my frivolous legal case against Mr. Calvin Klein.
Four weeks from today Margaret Cho will kick off a one-week run at the Art House in Provincetown. If you’ve never seen Margaret Cho perform on stage and will be in Ptown during Carnival Week this is one show I’d highly recommend you go see.
Margaret Cho is a regular here, spending part of each summer in Provincetown. Although she’s a San Franciscan through and through there is no doubt her heart has room for two homes and she considers Ptown a second home. Her performances here tend to be more raw and her audiences more adoring.
Margaret Cho will be peforming from Saturday, August 11th through Saturday, August 18th. You may purchase tickets online here.
Are my followers more humorous than I realize or am I simply able to read more Tweets and in a better mood because I’m out here on Cape Cod? Tough to say, but this Tweet by Ratty from earlier in the week gave me a good chuckle. I’ve been told that Bostonians have a cruel sense of humor – I suppose it must be true.
Ratty lives in the South End and he mostly Tweets about food and life with his fiancee. If you’re on Twitter and you’d like to follow Michael, you can find him @HeyRatty.
This week I’ve gone for an “artsy” take on Furry Friday. Its not the typical full body shot (although I assure you there will be more of those in the future too.) This guy has an amazing profile but I really love the sensuality the picture oozes.
Maybe you’ll disagree, but I loved the picture when it was sent to me.
I’ve swiped the title from an interesting article on NPR’s website. If you are like me you love charts that show information rather than listing content simply in text. The chart just below provides an interesting look at what American households earn. Just to be clear, a “household” consists of all the people who live in one house or apartment; including families, roommates, etc…These numbers come from the more than 114 million households in the 2010 Census. What this shows us is that the median household in the US makes approximately $50,000 in income and benefits per year; meaning 50% made more and 50% made less.
The article overlays that information with geographical data. This is where I know I’m a marketing geek, because I just loved this bit. You’ll see that many of the wealthiest states are ironically what would be classified as “blue” states (more progressive) or in the case of states like Colorado, New Hampshire and Virginia trending that way. Read into this what you will. If you like you may read the article on the NPR website by linking here.
