I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Gollum reads Donald Trump tweets

Andy Serkis, Trump Tweets

Andy Serkis is an English actor and director probably best known as the voice of Gollum, a fictional character from The Lord of the Rings movies. Last week he happened to be on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when the host, Stephen Colbert, asked if he would read one of Donald Trump’s recent tweets.

This could make for a great political commercial next fall. It is both hilarious and frightening. If you missed it, check out this 90-second clip.

InstagramThis week on Instagram I’m featuring someone who I’ve never met in person but who I’ve carried on conversations with using Twitter.

Onerebeldeveil has a great sense of humor and he uses his IG account to post a combination of what I’ll refer to as man candy photos and humorous pictures. A great example of the latter posts is the post I shared below.

Blade Runner 2049

Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Science FictionOne of Sergio’s favorite movies is the 1982 science fiction thriller Blade Runner. This October (thirty-five years later) Blade Runner 2049 will come to movie theaters. The new movie will include Harrison Ford who starred in the original film as well as Ryan Gosling and a host of other stars.

Below is a new movie trailer that was released yesterday on YouTube:Blade Runner 2049: Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Will you go see Blade Runner 2049?

Frontrunners

Frontrunners Boston visiting RI this past Fall

Gareth Johnson is a writer who I read regularly via Medium. Earlier this month he had an interesting article on Frontrunners, the LGBT running club that was inspired by the novel, The Front Runner, first published in 1974 and would go on to sell more than 10 million copies. The book is noted for being the first contemporary gay novel to achieve mainstream commercial and critical success.Patricia Nell WarrenEven more impressive than the book’s critical and commercial success is how it served as an inspiration to establish gay running clubs, initially in San Francisco and Los Angeles, but then through out the U.S., North America and eventually the world. I didn’t count but there are more than 50 International chapters and easily as many chapters here in the United States.

Aside from how inspiring the story is (one I didn’t know until I read Gareth’s article on Medium), I wanted to give the Boston chapter a shout out. Often I hear people lament how difficult it is to meet up and connect with people. This club meets regularly and has a social element following their Saturday runs which gives you the chance to get to meet and connect with others. And one needn’t be some amazing runner to keep up. Different distances are available for you to choose what is best for you. For more information about Boston’s Frontrunners’ Chapter visit the following links.

Community Marketing & Insights (CMI) wants to hear from you. They have a new online survey about LGBTQ hotel and travel preferences. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete.

Everyone who completes the survey can be entered into a drawing to win one of twenty US $50, or if you win you can select a charity to receive the $50.

CMI’s Hotel and Travel Preferences LGBTQ Survey

One survey question asks what (if any) blogs are travel resources for you. Any shout out to BosGuy blog is certainly appreciated.

Men in kilts

Is it still a kilt if it has belt loops? I figured I’d risk it since I can’t seem to stop looking at his stomach and wondering if he knows what ice cream tastes like.

Pretty Ptown

With all the parties and shows taking place in the height of summer, it is easy to be distracted and miss out on the charm that Provincetown oozes. Strolling through Ptown’s East End and West End is a great way to pass time whether you are on your own or with someone special. I’ve included a few photos to show you what I mean.

Restaurant review: South End Buttery

Back in 2005 the South End Buttery opened on the corner of Shawmut Ave and Union Park Street in the South End, replacing a tiny cafe that had previously operated in the space. In 2008 they expanded into an adjacent space to include a restaurant and bar with dinner service daily and brunch on weekends.

The Buttery currently has a great special running this month, offering 50% off their dinner menu Sunday through Wednesday, so Sergio and I decided to have dinner there last Sunday. We regularly visit the coffee shop and I enjoy their brunch but neither of us had ever been for dinner.  The menu serves classic American fare like burgers, mac and cheese and meatloaf, all reasonably priced with dishes ranging from $17-$22.

South End Buttery’s cauliflower is a tasty side that costs $6

We sat downstairs in the restaurant’s partially subterranean cozy little dining room and started by sharing one of their sides, the fried cauliflower with a lemon tahini sauce. The cauliflower was served warm and was lightly salted, which went great with my beer while we chatted and waited for our dinner to arrive.

For dinner Sergio ordered the Buttery’s Chicken Parmesan which looked appealing but I did not try. I opted to have the Buttery’s burger. I had been torn between the Fish and Chips and the burger and our helpful waiter encouraged me to go with the latter.

South End Buttery’s signature bacon cheeseburger and fries is $18

The Buttery clearly likes their burgers. They often have promotions and the three options, the bacon cheeseburger, turkey burger and chickpea falafel have their own section on the menu. I hate to admit it but my burger fell flat because it was overcooked. However, I’m inclined to give The Buttery another try because I know that others have said they enjoy their burger – maybe I’ll make another dash back before the end of the month, while the burger can be had for 50% off.

Despite the overcooked burger, the fries and cauliflower were great, Sergio really enjoyed his dinner and let’s face it, the South End Buttery is so damn charming. The restaurant is open 7-days a week for dinner and serves a delicious brunch Saturday and Sunday from 9AM – 3PM.

BosGuy Rating: 3 out of 5 stars, Good.

I’m in a Provincetown state of mind

Sergio left to visit his Mom earlier this week so I decided to visit Provincetown. I’ve been thinking a lot about this special place and have not had an opportunity to visit yet this summer. The photograph shown above is of Long Point Light Station, and I took this photo last year after kayaking to Long Point.

Although the Long Point Light Station first opened 190 years ago, this light house dates back to 1875 (140+ years ago). Kayaking out to this light house has become an unofficial tradition of mine that is typically followed by having a cocktail (or two)  at The Red Inn on my way back to the rental shop.
