Boston’s Guerrilla Queer Bar celebrates 7 years at Tequila Rain
Tomorrow, Friday, October 3rd Boston Guerrilla Queer Bar (GQB) will celebrate seven years in Boston. Over time GQB’s popularity expanded beyond a one time a month take over of a straight bar or nightclub into the very popular LGBT social group, The Welcoming Committee (TWC), which is now also active in several other cities around the country.
GQB – 9PM Friday, October 3rd at Tequila Rain
If you’ve never been to a GQB takeover or if it has been awhile, you may want to check out this week’s celebration. You can learn more about GQB’s seven year itch this Friday by liking their event page, here. You can also learn more about other programs from TWC by visiting, thewelcomingcommittee.com.
Congratulations TWC. I wish you many more years here in Boston. You’ve enhanced LGBT life in Boston and made our city more welcoming.

#FeelingNuts
It was inevitable I suppose, but looking to capitalize on the social media success of this summer’s ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, U.K. based Check One Two has created the “Crotch Grab Challenge” to raise awareness about testicular cancer and to encourage men to regularly examine themselves.
Recently Hugh Jackman decided to lend a hand (so to speak) to support the cause and tweeted out the above photo signalling his acceptance of the challenge. He then nominated Niel Patrick Harris, Michael Strahan and Ricky Gervais.
DIEUX DU STADE 2015
Dieux du Stade 2015 goes on sale starting today, October 2nd.
To entice their many fans around the world they have released a series of ‘teaser’ promotional videos over the past few weeks leading up to the launch.
Below is the third such teaser. While there isn’t any explicit nudity – you may want to watch this away from colleagues who may raise an eyebrow with so much skin on the screen.
If you like, you may place your order by visiting their website here. You may also want to follow them on Twittah, @DivxDvStade.
Bostonians love local cultcha
A recent study conducted by the MFA Boston has concluded that Bostonians attend a greater number of cultural events per month when compared with the national average; and for those wondering sporting events were not factored into the survey.
The study found that 78% of Boston-area audiences participate in at least one cultural event each month, while only 69% of national audiences do. The most culturally active audiences around Boston are Millennials (18 to 29) and Generation X (30 to 49).
The survey results really don’t surprise me. Boston has a large number of cultural venues (more than most cities its size) as well as an affluent, young, educated population. You can read more about the findings here.

Realm health and fitness tips from Kyle
If you are trying to put on muscle and are not currently practicing at least 1 or 2 sets of “negatives” you are missing out on a lot of potential upside, for literally less work.
Let me explain further, there are two primary types of muscle contractions, concentric and eccentric. Concentric is when a muscle is “shortening” (ex. action at the bicep on a curl when you are raising the muscle.) and eccentric is when the muscle is “lengthening” (ex. action at the bicep when you are lowing the muscle).
Studies show that “eccentric training” or putting your focus on the eccentric muscle contraction, during a workout, will build more muscle. The activity causes more microtrauma and forces your body to rebuild and grow. Try applying this rule to your current program and see the results when you start lifting. For each set, count 5 seconds on the “eccentric” and 2 seconds on the “concentric”.
- Bench press: 5 seconds slowly bringing the bar to your chest, and 2 seconds pressing it up.
- Squat: 5 seconds lowering your hips and 2 seconds pressing up
- Bent over row: 2 seconds pulling the bar into your stomach and 5 seconds letting the bar out toward the ground
