I love the singer Sia and the ridiculous wigs she wears so she can maintain her privacy. She recently appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden in his reoccurring skit “Carpool Karaoke” and she absolutely crushed it. Enjoy the sing along (and join in) as you pass time and wait for the weekend to start. #TGIF

A friend and follower of this blog recently shared an article from The Economist website, Why Lesbians Tend To Earn More Than Heterosexual Women, which I thought was interesting and wanted to share.
The article admits that this type of research can be tricky because not everyone is forthright about their sexual orientation or compensation but based on studies (not cited in this article) it appears that lesbians earn more than heterosexual woman, which is contrary to heterosexual and homosexual men where heterosexual men earn about 10-12% more in Canada and the US.
The article explores factors that might contribute to lesbians earning more than their heterosexual counterparts but it is mostly speculation. I hope the article is correct and that professional lesbians help close the delta of pay between the sexes. The lesbians I am friendly with are dedicated, smart and hard working. They deserve the accolades and acknowledgments for their contributions – hopefully that translates into more $ for them.

LOVE THIS: Kentucky state representative, Mary Lou Marzian, believed that a new law requiring women to have a medical consultation 24 hours before having an abortion smacked of sexism so last week she proposed a bill in the male-dominated House to drive home the point.
Under the legislation, men would have to navigate a series of obstacles before they could obtain erectile dysfunction drugs, like Viagra. They would be required to have two doctor visits, a signed-and-dated letter from his spouse providing consent, and a sworn statement — delivered with his hand on a Bible — that he would use the drugs only to have sex with his spouse. And only married men would be eligible for the drugs.

Bear Week in Provincetown is still pretty far off but tickets to the shows at The Crown & Anchor have recently gone on sale. The line up that the Crown & Anchor is offering this year includes favorites who perform in Ptown regularly like Miss Richfield 1981 and Dina Martina as well as special guests who visit for just a few shows like Pam Ann, Leslie Jordan and Alan Cumming.
Tickets to shows always sell out so if you already have plans to visit during Bear Week, talk to your friends and reserve your tickets today.
SRV Boston recently opened in the South End and while I normally hold off on visiting new restaurants, a friend organized a dinner there so Sergio and I joined them and in short, I’m really glad we went. SRV Boston is the third restaurant from the Coda Group that also owns and operates The Salty Pig, Coda Kitchen & Bar and Canary Square.
The restaurant is larger than I expected and with a sizable private patio, in good weather I would guess the restaurant can comfortably seat 200+. The restaurant is mostly open so you can see from one end to the other and it is nicely designed with exposed brick and other architectural details that kept my eyes wandering, while we waited for the rest of our party and our drinks to arrive.
Although SRV Boston encourages you to order small plates and share, we were having none of it. If you feel the same I would strongly recommend you focus on the “Grani” options on the menu, which are more substantial. Items on the menu ranged from $8 – $28 with the majority of items ranging from $15-$20.
The staff was very sweet and brought our table these snacks to nibble on while we waited for our meal. Unfortunately I missed what this is called on the menu, but the crostini were served with cod and some greens. Once the plates started coming there seemed to be no end in sight. For those who may go to SRV, try the Pasta e Fasoi (which as near as I can tell is the same thing as Pasta e Fagioli). The heaping bowl is the perfect starter and warmed me up in a hurry.
Following the soup I was looking forward to my main dish, Buckwheat Bigoli, served in a rich, duck ragu, sofrito and sage (shown below). Friends also ordered the Squid Ink Risotto, Risotto al Tartufo and Spaghetti alla Busara. Although I didn’t try what my friends were eating, there seemed to be universal agreement; everyone enjoyed their meal.
I was impressed by SRV. Despite the fact that this neighborhood already has plenty of Italian restaurants, this may be one you might want to put on your radar. SRV has a great bar if you want to check it out to get a good look at the space. If you go for dinner, I would encourage making a reservation as the space was completely full fairly early in the evening when I went on a weeknight.
SRV Boston is located at 569 Columbus Ave in the South End

Affordable housing remains a big concern for many in Boston and according to real estate research site, Zumper.com, it is with good reason. While all of Boston remains expensive, the downtown neighborhoods and parts of Cambridge median rents are north of $2,700 a month for a one bedroom apartment.
Below I’ve included Zumper.com list of ten most expensive cities based on one bedroom median rents from January 2016. Boston gets a bronze medal, coming in with the third most expensive median rent – a dubious honor no doubt.
You can read more about Zumper.com research on their website, here.
Each Wednesday morning I post a photograph and ask readers to offer a funny caption. Hopefully the caption below inspires you to share a few of your own.

As if the entire Republican Primary process hasn’t been obscene enough, artist, Illma Gore, has shared a drawing of a naked Donald Trump, entitled ironically “Make America Great Again”.
I’ve never posted anything quite like this before but I find Trump so distasteful as a person (let alone as President) that I wanted to share this because it clearly mocks him and is meant to remind all of us that behind his bluster and xenophobic rants he’s really just an ugly, old man – both inside and out.
Two weeks from today is The Taste of the South End. Do you have your tickets yet? This year’s event will include more than 40 of the neighborhood’s restaurants, plenty to drink, a pretty sweet silent auction as well as entertaining cooking demonstrations from some of your favorite chefs.
Click on the link below and get tickets while they still remain available. The proceeds go to benefit the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts.

A South End restaurant favorite, Aquitaine, on Tremont Street will be closing for renovations starting Sunday, February 21st and will not reopen again until just before their 19th anniversary in May.
While I love Aquitaine and will miss visiting while they are closed, I look forward to the renovations. While Seth Woods and others from the Aquitaine Group have been fairly tight lipped about the details regarding the renovations, one would assume that the kitchen will be updated and the tiny wine bar will likely expand to keep with restaurant design trends. Stay tuned as I’ll be sure to follow up on this project as I learn more.
