White homos are taking black women’s men

james david manningNormally I don’t post content like this but with the tide of public opinion and finally a supportive government (thank you President Obama), these rants no longer terrify me; James David Manning and his rants are now anachronistic.  Between his rant against President Obama who is apparently destroying the black American family and his praise for African leaders who would like to kill homosexuals, Mr. Manning, Chief Pastor for ATLAH Worldwide Ministry Church in Harlem says this:

Now the white homo is now moving into black neighborhoods, looking for black men that have been converted into homosexuality.  But black women, let me say something to you. You will have a very hard time competing against a white homosexual male.   He usually has money. A white homo usually has an American Express card.  He usually has an opportunity at the theater – homos love the theater, they love to go out to dinner parties. They love that kind of a thing and as a black woman you can’t compete.

Thanks for sharing this with me Lady High Heels.

Boston’s next gay bar: The Cathedral Place

Fritz BostonRumor has it that today the owners of The Cathedral Place (a.k.a the “new Fritz”) will be getting keys to the The Red Fez in Boston’s South End at 1222 Washington Street.

Since the naming rights for Fritz reside with different owners, the new space cannot be called Fritz, but I was told most of the staff from that bar which we mustn’t mention will help open The Cathedral Place.  The 300-person capacity, 40 car parking lot, outdoor patio and entertainment license that all come with the space make 1222 Washington Street a very appealing location.  Should the stars align, one can (I’m crossing my fingers as I type this) expect a new gay bar to open deep in Boston’s South End.

BosGuy cooks: Wicked awesome chicken and peppers

bosguy cooksThis easy to make dinner provides a lot of flavor and can be prepped and cooked in approximately 30 minutes. Ingredients include: 1 lb of chicken, 2 bell peppers, 6-8 small spicy peppers, 2-3 garlic cloves, crushed red pepper, oregano and flour.

BosGuy cooks

Step 1: Dredge the chicken in flour and add to an already hot pan with olive oil and two crushed garlic cloves over medium heat. Cover the chicken once added and flip the pieces as they start to brown.  Add the dried herbs – crushed red pepper and oregano.

Step 2: Cut the bell peppers and smaller spicy pepperoncini and add to the pan then cover.  Continue to vigorously shake the pan to keep the chicken from sticking.  The peppers will create a lot of steam that the chicken will absorb so be sure to cover the pan once they are added.

Step 3: Add 1/2 cup to 1 cup of white wine and cover.  Continue to vigorously shake the pan rather than taking the lid off to stir so the ingredients all mix. Cook for approximately 10-15 minutes depending on the size of the meat.

BosGuy cooksThe smell of this as it cooks (esp. once you’ve added the peppers and wine) is heady, keep it covered so the chicken will absorb those flavors. This dish is best served over a bed of pasta – my preference is linguine.  If possible add 1/4 of a cup (half a ladle) of the boiling water that cooked the pasta this will add more liquid and flavor. Toss the cooked pasta in the pan or use tongs to coat it with all the flavors from the chicken, peppers and wine.

South End welcomes two new restaurants

BiNA Family Hospitality Merrill and CompanyTonight The BiNA Family Hospitality Group will open their latest restaurant, Merrill & Co. This is the same restaurant group who also own  jm Curley’s, Bogie’s Place, Bin 26 Enoteca and Lala Rokh.  However this is their first venture into Boston’s South End. They are located at 1 Appleton Street, formerly the home of 28 degrees. While their menu is not available online (yet), executive chef Jason Cheek (previously with KO Prime) indicated they would focus on local seafood.

South End SpeakeasyWink & Nod shall open this Saturday, according to G.M., Curtis McMillan. BNV  has remodeled the space that had previously been home to their subterranean restaurant and lounge, Noche.  Although they’ve not shared much about the menu, Boston.com featured a write up last week announcing that the chefs would be Philip Kruta and Jeremy Kean – best known for a North End pop-up restaurant.

I’m happy to see these spaces coming back to life and bringing more dining options to the neighborhood.

Mother Nature is a cruel b*tch

old man winter and mother natureFor anyone living in the northeast (although this probably applies to most of the United States), this winter has been a real b*tch. We learned new terms like “Polar Vortex”.  I’m still not certain what that is, but prior to January 2014 I’d never heard of it and having lived through it once, I know I never want to experience it again.

Boston enjoyed an ever so brief warm up this weekend and now that we’ve “sprung forward” I’m ready to put this winter behind me but it seems that Mother Nature is head over heels, cuckoo for Ol’ Man Winter. What does this New Englander have to do to break up this relationship?

Support for marriage equality hits an all-time high

same sex marriageLast week ABC News and The Washington Post released findings from a marriage equality poll. The findings show that support for marriage equality is at an all time high with 59% of those surveyed indicating their support; up from just 32% in 2004 when Massachusetts first legalized same-sex marriage.

Marriage equality poll in AmericaMore interestingly those opposing marriage equality has dropped by 13% in the past two years. The poll also found that 81% of respondents oppose allowing businesses to refuse service to gays and lesbians.  You can see the results of the poll’s 8 question survey here.

Restaurant review: The Friendly Toast (Cambridge)

The Friendly Toast CambridgeThe Friendly Toast first opened in Portsmouth, NH twenty years ago and opened a second location in Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA five years ago so this review is a bit late in the making.  Despite that fact, I’ve been looking forward to visiting this restaurant since it opened.  The funky vibe that is so evident in the original restaurant is replicated in Cambridge, although there is a haphazard nature to the decor in the Portsmouth location that seems more planned or contrived here.

The Friendly Toast CambridgeTacky decor aside, our food was delicious.  The breakfast menu options are abundant and each plate seems to have plenty of flavor.  Shown above is The Friendly Toast’s Costa Rican breakfast $10.75 which comes with black beans and plum tomatoes under melted provolone;
two eggs with a dollop of sour cream, served with homefries & homemade toast.

The Friendly Toast CambridgeSergio opted for a breakfast sandwich for $8.50 that came on a homemade biscuit with a thick slice of ham, eggs and cheese and a side of their breakfast potatoes which are flavored with chili powder to give them some kick.  The presentation of both breakfast plates was imposing so it is best to bring your appetite.

Since the restaurant doesn’t take reservations, you may end up waiting quite a while so if you don’t arrive hungry, by the time you get a table you likely will be.  The Friendly Toast in Cambridge is open for breakfast at 8 a.m. seven days a week at 1 Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA.
