Get up and enjoy the day. Today Boston will actually hit 50 degrees.

Hold the press. Did you see the article in the Boston Herald today? Of course you didn’t – which is why I’m here to point it out to you. They are reporting that Mayor Marty Walsh, is advocating for a “late night task force” to help reshape the city’s nightlife — with a mandate to look at 3:30 a.m. closings.
The article mentions that the group will look to create a pilot program in the Seaport District to test extending the closing time of bars and restaurants, possibly easing into it by allowing establishments to serve alcohol until 2:30 a.m. but stay open until 3:30 a.m. The staggered closings could help avoid the crush of people who file out into the streets at 2 a.m. This comes just months after the MBTA announced they will launch a pilot extending weekend service back to 3 a.m.
It goes without saying that I’m in favor of this and hope it can also help struggling restaurants and bars who may now be able to collect more revenues by staying open longer. Now if we can do something about those pesky liquor licenses I think we might actually be able to foster a nightlife that would allow more gay bars to open.

No plans on Sunday afternoon? You may want to talk to your buddies this weekend and check out this Sunday’s Back2Basics Tea Dance at Club Cafe which will be spinning 80s classics from 5 pm to 10 pm.
Thanks to MathWorks, all IMAX films at the Mugar Omni Theater at the Museum of Science each Friday will be free in the month of March. You may collect your tickets at the Museum box office on the day of the show but beware it is first come, first served. Tomorrow’s IMAX films at the Mugar Omni Theater are:
If you already have plans tomorrow, check back later this month.
Two of my favorite things to consume are pizza and wine so I couldn’t resist commenting on and sharing this infographic that I first saw last month on BostonInno but was originally posted by Indian Wine List.
Did you read the Boston Herald this morning? Most likely not, so you likely missed this gem from John “Wacko” Hurley.
Parade organizer John “Wacko” Hurley said…”there’s no way, shape or form that they’re (MassEquality) going to get back in…I went into a bar and got a beer today, and I got more cheers than I ever got in my life…” More here.
Did you happen to read Monday’s New York Times article “Republicans From the West Give Support for Gay Marriage“? The article notes that 20 Republicans including former Senator Alan K. Simpson of Wyoming, a longtime supporter of gay rights, and former Senator Nancy L. Kassebaum of Kansas, who said last year that she had reconsidered her former opposition to same-sex marriage, would send a brief urging a federal appeals court to declare gay marriage bans in Utah and Oklahoma unconstitutional.
I find this interesting because as the Times journalist writes, “The brief was the latest sign of widening cracks in Republican opposition to same-sex marriage, even deep in the country’s conservative heartland.” With the majority of the public now supporting marriage equality a growing number of Republicans find themselves at odds with the more conservative elements of their party.
A fissure along social policy is a rare thing to see among Republicans, but I’m not about to celebrate this move until more prominent individuals come forward. If this continues to gain traction it could create for a feisty Republican Presidential primary, but I’m getting ahead of myself.
I couldn’t help but post this photo after I saw it here.
Yesterday The AIDS Action Committee hosted their annual fundraiser and tasting, The Taste of the South End. This casual, fun event which draws heavily from South End residents and local foodies never fails to entertain and provides everyone a chance to interact with some of Boston’s most recognizable chefs. Thank you to everyone who was nice enough to pose, the participating restaurants andto AIDS Action for making this one of my favorite events to attend each year.
