Temptation Tuesday
Much thanks to Tony for introducing me to Sesamir Yearby, former college football player turned model. Want to see some more of Sesamir?
MBTA free after 8PM on NYE
If you are planning to head out and have not already heard, the MBTA will be offering free rides after 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and extending their service until 2 am. The T’s Silver Line, buses, trackless trolleys, express bus routes and boats will run on regular weekday schedules on New Year’s Eve. The T’s Green, Red, Orange, and Blue lines will operate on modified weekday schedules. To see a detailed list of extra commuter rail service and delayed departure times, click here.
Capital punishment
Generally, I reserve my blog for more lighthearted topics and areas of interest but from time to time, I’ve been known for the occasional political rant. After reading this weekend’s NY Times editorial, The Slow Demise of Capital Punishment, I knew I wanted to comment. The OpEd points out some interestinng stats. Did you know?
– In 2013 Maryland became the 6th state in 6 years to end capital punishment bringing the total of states to abolish the death penalty to 18 plus the District of Columbia.
– The death penalty is dormant in the federal system and the military.
– 30 states have had no executions in the last 5 years.
The NYT editorial wrote, “As it becomes less frequent, the death penalty also becomes more limited to an extremely small slice of the country, and therefore all the more arbitrary in its application.” This “arbitrary application” becomes all the more apparent when you realize that all 80 death sentences in 2013 came from 2% of counties, and of all 39 executions (more than half occurred in TX and FL) and took place in 1% of all counties.
I echo the editor’s thought and hope our country soon comes to realize that capital punishment is a 20th century experiment that has failed and needs to be made unconstitutional.
What does the way you speak say about where you are from?
Much thanks to my good friend and fellow blogger (or should I say bloggah?) Julian who writes, You Think You Know for telling me about the NYT survey that asks a series of questions about pronunciation and names you give to certain items to determine or in my case confirms your personal dialect. No surprise with my results – which you can clearly see in the above image.
Want to take this two minute quiz to see what it says about your dialect? Check out the NYT survey here.
Red carpet rumble
Do you fancy yourself a fashionista? Are you obsessed with red carpet fashion? Is E television’s show Fashion Police on your DVR? Clearly, I am not but for those of you who answered “yes” to the previous questions, you may want to check out Boston.com’s Red Carpet Rumble 2013.
Thank you
I’ve always maintained that this blog is my guilty habit. It helps me disengage from work and relax. In addition, I’ve also been able to meet a number of really great guys whom I otherwise probably would’ve never met. I consider that one of the better unintended consequences of this hobby. While I’ve never had any expectations or plans beyond writing about my life and interests, I’ve been pleasantly surprised and pleased to see more and more people stop by and comment on my posts. For all of you who visit this site, I want to say thank you very much.
Have yourself a wonderfully happy, safe and healthy 2014.
Blind Tiger renamed Wink and Nod
The South End restaurant and bar space perhaps best known as the former home of Icarus, but most recently occupied by Noche made news earlier this year when the owners, Boston Nightlife Ventures (BNV), said they would reopen as a cocktail speakeasy restaurant in early 2014 named Blind Tiger. I wrote about it and included some artist renderings in my post Blind Tiger.
Earlier this month BNV announced they were changing the name to Wink and Nod after initial tests indicated Blind Tiger sounded too much like an Asian restaurant. Euz Azevedo told foodie blog, Eater Boston, Wink and Nod will feature “a serious craft cocktail program with a dinner menu that can be paired well with the inspired drinks and are encouraged to be shared.”
While I’m happy to welcome a new restaurant and bar, BNV has a dubious record of managing restaurants. Maybe this will be the restaurant that proves me wrong. I’ll be more than a little curious to see who they partner with to develop their menu and see how it is managed after the opening. I was a regular at Noche’s bar on Wednesday nights and miss the space.
Saturday night
This is a rather unique weekend in the US. The final weekend of the year; sandwiched between two of the biggest holidays celebrated in America: Christmas and New Year’s.
Many of you will be stepping out with friends tonight, and I wanted to wish you a happy and fun night. Here are some photos from a recent party Sergio and I hosted earlier this week. I wish I had more pictures of everyone who stopped by but perhaps it is a sign of a good party – we simply forgot to take pictures and then later in the evening the photos became even more blurry than some of the ones used in this post. A telltale sign of our own vision at that hour I’m certain.

Best ‘Comeback’ of 2013: Redheads
Last week DNA Magazine wrote on their blog that the best comeback trend of the past year was the reemergence of redheads / gingers. I hadn’t quite thought of it that way but it is hard to deny that many gay blogs and magazines have been featuring gingers with more frequency. I know I enjoy Sean’s Ginger Men feature posts on his blog Just A Jeep Guy.
Above is a former Furry Friday post from my blog a few weeks ago and below are a few guys I featured earlier this year.

If you happen to be a redhead or perhaps you just find ‘gingers’ handsome you may be interested to learn that earlier this month in London there was a photography exhibit by fashion photographer, Thomas Knight, entitled Red Hot. You can check out photos from the exhibit on the Facebook page, here.
Annabelle
One week ago today I became an uncle for the fourth time. Annabelle arrived about a month earlier than expected so my tiny niece is under close supervision at the hospital. This is my second niece and my brother’s first child.
Below is a photograph of my brother reading to my niece. I’ve missed my brother since he moved away this summer and now that Annabelle has arrived it seems strange not to be able to see them at the hospital but plans have been made to visit them in California over Easter and I can hardly wait.
