Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.
I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.
This week’s riddle: A cloud was my mother, the wind is my father, my son is the cool stream, and my daughter is the fruit of the land. What am I?
I’ve been struggling to get to the gym since returning from my Brazil trip in early December. The colder weather, early sunsets and all the holiday parties made it easy to skip the gym. Fortunately, my trainer has been good about making sure that we regularly meet up… that is until this week when my work schedule left me with no time for gym time.
I half wondered if people would hear the huge thumping sound of my fat ass falling off the proverbial wagon. I really dislike it when I fall out of my gym routine, but I only have myself to blame for it. Knowing that I’m heading to Puerto Rico at the end of this month has lit a fire under that fat ass of mine so I’m looking forward to my date with my trainer tomorrow.
This Sunday is the Mass Bearz Tea Dance at Club Cafe. I plan on stopping by to check out the Tea Dance and to say hello to some friends so if you happen to stop by and see me, please say hello.
For many it is a long holiday weekend (sadly not for me) so I’m hoping that there will be a fun crowd that will help me forget that I have to head back to work the next day.
Bearz Tea Dance at Club Cafe starts at 5PM – and has no cover charge.
It might be cold and blustery here in New England, but yesterday I spoke to my friend in Provincetown and confirmed reservations that will bring me back for 4th of July and Carnival Week in 2013.
Will you be planning any visits to Provincetown in 2013? I’m happy to offer tips or suggestions for first timers and happy to meet for a drink at Tea Dance or elsewhere should we be in Ptown at the same time.
Some of you may not know that I’m addicted to Twittah Twitter.
Every once in a while I fess up to this enjoyable addiction by mentioning it here on my blog. If you happen to have a Twitter handle, check me out and consider following my daily Tweets. My handle on Twitter is (you guessed it) BosGuy.
Last week I wrote about The Foodery, a food preparation and delivery service in metro Boston that only uses organic ingredients locally sourced. Mike and John, the business partners and buddies who conceived the idea, were kind enough to surprise me on Sunday with a delivery of two meals. So on Monday evening I fired up the microwave and tried out the dinners. The following is my review.
This service is not going to be for everyone. However, professionals, couples and families on the go who want a respite from kitchen duties may find this a helpful service. Additionally, those watching what they eat but in need of help preparing healthy meals will also find this service tempting since it makes calorie counting so easy. The portion size looked small when I opened them but they were satisfying and later in the evening when I was tempted to grab a bite I opted for a cup of tea rather than the bag of chips I had been eyeing.
If you are curious about the food check out next week’s menu at The Foodery; filet with spinach, watercress salad and blueberry dressing; whole wheat shrimp veggie pizza; lamb with porcini mushroom, butternut squash and cous cous. All orders must be placed by Thursday evening for delivery on Sunday night.
In my quick video I show you the packaging, prep and try my best to describe the food. I hope you enjoy. I certainly had fun reviewing the dinners.
Now that we are halfway through the work week, it is time to start planning for the weekend. On Friday, January 18th I will be heading over to enjoy The SpeakEasy Stage Out & About performance of Other Desert Cities.
Out & About night at The SpeakEasy Stage welcomes everyone but it is safe to say there is even more than usual representation from the GLBT community on these special performance nights. Following Friday’s show, all are welcome to join the cast after the performance for a special post-show party.
Join me this Friday and be sure to say hello. You may buy your tickets online here or call the box office at, 617.933.8600.
The Welcoming Committee is a large and growing organization that evolved from Guerrilla Queer Bar (GQB) and caters to Boston’s LGBT community.
Each month the organization regularly attracts hundreds of 20-somethings to their First Friday Guerrilla Queer Bar takeover, but the organization’s 2013 calendar has events that will appeal to 30 and 40 somethings too, including speed dating and a Scotch tasting.
Wine Tasting Wednesday – January 30th at 6:3o PM
Want to find out more about this event? Start by registering for the Tasting since space is limited. More information here.
Men in kilts are damned sexy and everyone knows it. Just as every man looks like he’s a bit taller and has broader shoulders when they slip into a tuxedo, there is something incredibly masculine about a man wearing this traditional Scottish garb and Cirque du Soleil knows it.
Cirque du Soleil recently released this behind the scenes video entitled “Scottish Fantasy” to promote their show Zumanity in Las Vegas. If you’ve not seen the clip, feel free to check it out below.
In the US it is customary for a bride to have a special dance with her father, but I’ve never seen anything quite like this before. It makes me wish I knew the family and had been invited to this wedding.
This week’s temptation is for all those who like ’em big and strong. I prefer more swarthy guys not quite as jacked, but I have to admit his legs are Ahhh-mazing.
Boston Chops had a crew outside today to place their sign out on the restaurant’s awning. Nothing says “ready to open” like hanging a sign out in front of your restaurant… right?
Restaurantaur, Brian Piccini, has an excellent track record with opening successful restaurants so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this is a “sign” of an imminent opening. Boston Chops will be the third restaurant in the South End in as many months to open following BoMA, Estelle’s and Cinquecento.
One month ago today was the Sandy Hook tragedy. While I still cannot wrap my head around the senseless killings that took the lives of 27 innocent victims, what I find equally inconceivable is the callous response from the National Rifle Association in the days that followed.
While I’m paraphrasing the NRA’s response, they indicated schools are easy targets so Americans should focus on arming them to prevent future tragedies like Sandy Hook. This line of thought smacks of a deep-seated paranoia that I can’t comprehend. As I understand it, the NRA’s argument is do not limit the manufacturing of weapons – rather arm yourself and everyone. The thought of people being able to purchase a semi automatic assault rifle would have been inconceivable when I was the age of the elementary school children killed, but now the NRA (and apparently America) find this an inalienable right. Following that line of thought, one expects that only providing more deadly weaponry is the answer so perhaps in another decade we’ll be discussing the need to bring grenade launchers (shown above) or having armored tanks at our schools.
I suppose why I’m writing this post is because I want to ask, is this the kind of society we want to live and is this what we truly value?
