Donald Trump by Illma Gore

Illma Gore, Unicorn BootyAs if the entire Republican Primary process hasn’t been obscene enough, artist, Illma Gore, has shared a drawing of a naked Donald Trump, entitled ironically “Make America Great Again”.

I’ve never posted anything quite like this before but I find Trump so distasteful as a person (let alone as President) that I wanted to share this because it clearly mocks him and is meant to remind all of us that behind his bluster and xenophobic rants he’s really just an ugly, old man – both inside and out.

You can see the NSFW image on Unicorn Booty’s website here.

Two weeks  from today is The Taste of the South End.  Do you have your tickets yet? This year’s event will include more than 40 of the neighborhood’s restaurants, plenty to drink, a pretty sweet silent auction as well as entertaining cooking demonstrations from some of your favorite chefs.

Click on the link below and get tickets while they still remain available. The proceeds go to benefit the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts.

Aquitaine Boston closes for renovations this week

Aquitaine BostonA South End restaurant favorite, Aquitaine, on Tremont Street will be closing for renovations starting Sunday, February 21st and will not reopen again until just before their 19th anniversary in May.

While I love Aquitaine and will miss visiting while they are closed, I look forward to the renovations.  While Seth Woods and others from the Aquitaine Group have been fairly tight lipped about the details regarding the renovations, one would assume that the kitchen will be updated and the tiny wine bar will likely expand to keep with restaurant design trends. Stay tuned as I’ll be sure to follow up on this project as I learn more.

New Greek restaurant Kava Neo Taverna looks ready to open

South End Restaurant, Greek Restaurant BostonI’ve been regularly talking to the owners of the soon to open Greek restaurant, Kava Neo Taverna, since construction first caught my eye last fall.

Although the owners remain unsure when they will formally open, the paper has come down from the over-sized windows and you can see what appears to be a casual dining restaurant. From the back of the restaurant you can see a painting of an old Greek man looking out over their rustic dining room. Dark wood floors contrast with the chairs, tables and white walls.  Lighting fixtures made of thick rope you might see on the docks of Boston harbor dangle overhead, and a small but comfortable looking bar is tucked in the back of the restaurant.

Kava is currently hiring for all positions so if you’d like to learn more send your resume to info@kavaneotaverna.com.

I miss the summer

handsome, sexy, coolI know that the weather this past fall and up through January has been unseasonably warm, but the past few days have reminded all of us in Boston that winter is here. To chase away my winter blues I’m looking at photos of people relaxing on the beach or poolside. I’d love to join this guy and jump into a pool.

Relationships

Making the case for Valentine's DayI have a number of friends who are very happy that they are single. I also know a few (not many) people who I suspect might be happier if they were single. This post isn’t for either of you, although I do believe you deserve to be loved too.

This post is for a third group of friends who are single and looking to meet someone they can share their life with through the good and bad. Valentine’s Day can be frustrating for this group, reminding them of their most recent awkward date or maybe lack of dates. I hope you find someone who you fall madly in love with and in the interim you find comfort knowing your friends and family love you and think you’re fabulous – regardless of your dating status.

Nick wishes you a very happy Valentine’s Day

Patrick Lentz Photography, hairy, handsome, hunkMy friend and local photographer, Patrick Lentz, posted photographs of Nick who lives up on the North Shore, on Friday. The 25 year old from Gloucester loves the camera and agreed to take a series of photographs with Patrick, several of which have a very nice Valentine’s Day theme.

I’ve included a few photos below but you can see more of Nick on Flickr Patrick Lentz Photography, handsome, hairy, hunkPatrick Lentz Photography, handsome, hairy, hunkYou can see more of Patrick’s photography here, www.PatrickLentz.com.

Scruffy Sunday

Happy Valentine's DayNot the typical Scruffy Sunday post I’ll admit but I wanted a Valentine’s theme and this was the best I could find.

Walking with sandwiches: Ben’s New Year’s resolution

Many people make New Year’s resolutions each year and it is usually right about now that a lot of us give up on them. I stumbled upon this really inspiring YouTube video of someone who has an interesting story that I wanted to share.

Mega development proposed for downtown Boston

Downtown Boston mega development

Source: boston.curbed.com

Earlier this week Curbed Boston reported that the city and state are working together to turn a 5.5 acre site owned by the state at 185 Kneeland Street (sandwiched between South Station, Chinatown and the Expressway) into a “mega-development” (those were Curbed Boston’s words – not mine).

The state plans to host public-input sessions on any would-be development beginning in early March and a request for proposals could go out after that. According to the article, state officials are asking developers to think big – really big, suggesting the site accommodate 2,000,000 square feet with a sizable chunk of that dedicated to housing (hopefully affordable housing).

This could be a great opportunity for the city to add housing and build out a section of land that can bring taxable revenue to the state and city. I’ll be curious to see how this monster development opportunity progresses.
