Boston Mayor writes to President of Chick-Fil-A

Earlier this week I wrote about how Boston’s Mayor telling one of the country’s largest fast food chains it was not welcome in Boston after the President of the company divulged their support for traditional marriage and equated supporting same sex marriage to “inviting God’s judgement on our nation” in my post, Mayor Menino says Chick-fil-A not welcome in Boston.

There is no place for discrimination on Boston’s Freedom Trail and  no place for your company alongside it.

Following Mayor Menino’s public rebuke, he wrote a letter on city stationary to Chick-Fil-A president, Dan Cathy (see below).  In the letter he goes on to say…“you called supporters of gay marriage as ‘prideful’.  Here in Boston, to borrow your own words, we are ‘guilty as charged.’ The letter goes on and says, “I was angry to learn on the heels of your prejudiced statements about your search for a site to locate in Boston. There is no place for discrimination on Boston’s Freedom Trail and  no place for your company alongside it.”

Martha Coakley asks Supreme Court to strike part of DOMA

Defense of Marriage Act“The Defense of Marriage Act is a discriminatory and unconstitutional law that harms thousands of families in Massachusetts and takes away our state’s right to extend marriage equality to all couples. It is our firm conviction that in order to truly achieve marriage equality all couples must enjoy the same rights and protection under both state and federal law.”

“If the Supreme Court chooses to examine this case, we will look forward to once again making clear that DOMA and its pervasive discrimination is unconstitutional and should be ended.”

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley comments yesterday when she petitioned the US Supreme Court to strike part of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).  You can read more here.

D.hedral: The first shape based underwear

Recently I was bemoaning the fact that I do not resemble the Calvin Klein model who looks picture perfect in the underwear I purchased so you would think I’d not be tempted by D.Hedral’s sexy underwear line. Sadly, I’m a sucker and marketers know this.

D.Hedral claims their underwear is superior because they are the “first shape based underwear”.  Their product supposedly embraces your backside perfectly, enhancing it’s natural roundness and adding extra support. I’m thinking its sort of “wonder bra” for men’s butts. Check out this hilarious breakdown of how their garments will help you.

Restaurant review: Fanizzi’s in Provincetown

AtanasLast Friday we were encouraged to try the year round Ptown restaurant, Fanizzi’s, located deep in the East End at 539 Commercial Street.

Fanizzi’s offers home cooking in sizable portions that will leave you full and content.  The restaurant features a Fish-n-Chips special every Friday that comes with a garden salad all for $11.99.  If that doesn’t tempt you or if you are not there on a Friday, the menu is mostly comprised of seafood and Italian plates from $19 – $26 you may also order several burgers ranging from $10.00 – $12.00.

We were happy and impressed by the friendly waitstaff that took time to answer questions about the menu. Shown above is Atanas who waited on us at Fanizzi’s. You will be in good hands, assuming all of the staff is as knowledgeable about the menu and helpful with their suggestions.

Shown below are the: stuffed artichoke $10.99, steamed mussels $8.99 and the garden salad that accompanied our fish-n-chips order.
Provincetown FanizziAlthough all were good, our waiter recommended we try the mussels and it turned out to be the most satisfying of the three.  The broth with white wine, herbs and butter was intoxicating and we devoured them.

The Friday night Fish-n-Chips deal may go down as the best value for your money in all of Provincetown.  The portions are hearty and the fish is only barely fried allowing you plenty of white flaky fish.  Another surprise was the accompanying house slaw made with vinegar.

FanizziThis family-style dining restaurant is a hike so plan to give yourself enough time to get there, but it is worth trying – if only for the Friday Night Fish-N-Chips special. To avoid a wait in season, make a reservation.

Hint: Request a table with a view overlooking the water.

My colleague who happens to live in Midtown Manhattan on Park Avenue loves to poke fun at all her well-heeled neighbors.

While talking to her this morning she was giggling about her latest joke.

I think my co-worker is adorable and hearing her tell the joke gave me a good laugh.  Perhaps it’ll make you smile too.

How many WASPs does it take to change a light bulb?

Answer:  It takes two,  one to stir the martini and the other to call the electrician.

For readers not from the US, WASP refers to White Anglo-Saxon Protestants.  It is an informal, often derogatory term for a closed group of high-status Americans mostly of British Protestant ancestry.

Mayor Menino says Chick-fil-A not welcome in Boston

we-hate-gaysChick-fil-A is a large fast food chain in the United States with more than 1,600 locations. Chick-Fil-A has made news over the years because of their donations to anti-gay organizations, but the controversy came to a head recently when the President, Dan Cathy, said the following.

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit…we know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”

Responding to the comments above and Cathy’s statement that the embrace of marriage equality is tantamount to “inviting God’s judgement on our nation” Boston’s Mayor Menino had this to say,

“Chick Fil A doesn’t belong in Boston.  You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion.”

LGBT rights

Ivan over at Queer IV blog posted this graphic and pointed out that there is an issue when 29 States in the US allow employers to fire people simply because they are gay.

The LGBT community is often painted by its opponents as seeking “special rights” and are criticized by conservatives as seeking unnecessary legislation. Their failure to recognize the fact that prejudicial legislation allows some to legally discriminate against a person solely because of who they are underscores their lack of understanding that being gay is no more a choice than being heterosexual.

Where do you live? Can an employer in your state fire you, your partner, your friend or family member because of who they are? Perhaps it’s time you pick up your phone or email your State representative and ask them to join the 21st century by ending these discriminatory laws. I’d be ashamed to live in one of these 29 states.

Boston Summer Arts WeekendThe Boston Summer Arts Weekend starts this Friday.  The weekend celebration will showcase and blend both the Boston art community as well as nationally recognized musicians, actors and artists.

Most of the three-day festival can be enjoyed in Copley Square, but additional locations will also host artists and events open to the public. Fitness regimen

work out regimenI occasionally blog about my attempts to get into better shape and struggles with remaining motivated.  Starting last week my trainer and I changed my work out routine.

In lieu of meeting twice a week for a one hour we will now meet three times a week.  Once a week we will have a one hour session focusing on my back and chest, and twice a week we shall meet for thirty minutes;  one session will focus on arms and one session will focus on shoulders.

I like the idea of splitting one of my one hour sessions.  In theory, this will make sure that these muscle groups will get more attention.  As time permits,  I’m hoping to incorporate cardio either before or after the shorter work outs.  I’ll let you know how it works out.  What are you doing? Any tips or suggestions are always welcome.

Chris-NogiecWeather in Provincetown this past weekend was picture perfect with plenty of sun and warmth as well as lots of nice guys.  Here I am with Chris Nogiec a certified strength and conditioning specialist who is studying for his Ph.D. in Computational Metabolism (ABD).  We spent part of Tea Dance chatting and enjoying the day.

Chick-fil-Gay

Earlier this month, I included a picture urging people not to support  Chick-fil-A because of their opposition to same sex marriage. The company has made significant donations to homophobic organizations like Exodus and The Family Research Council.

Trying to be sensitive to all you who LOVE fried chicken sandwiches, I thought I would share this video of Hilah Johnson. It’s a legit video and one you will appreciate if you are a fried chicken lover. I love the start of the video when Hilah says, “When’s the best time for a fried chicken sandwich? Sunday morning. Who’s closed on Sunday? Chick-fil-A!
