Tweet of the day: Four skins

Yesterday I posted an image of “Four Skins” wine in my Things that make BosGuy go hmm… As usual, I Tweeted the post.  Shortly thereafter I received the following Tweet from @Johnheartstype.BosGuy

Restaurant review: Parc Bistro and Cafe

Stephen Starr, a Philadelphia restaurant impresario, impressed me so much on my last visit to the city of Brotherly Love in April when I ate at Talula’s Garden, I wanted to try another establishment. Earlier this month a business trip brought me back to Philadelphia and I was able to try Parc Bistro and Cafe in Rittenhouse Square.

Upon entering Parc there is no doubt you are in a large, bustling French restaurant, and I immediately felt at home walking into this brasserie.  The staff was attentive without being intrusive, allowing my colleagues and me to enjoy a leisurely dinner.

The dinner menu is divided into “fruits de mer” ranging between $10-$20; hors d’oeuvres and salads $8-$20; main plates $16-$32; as well as signature “specialites du jour” $31-$34.  While everyone enjoyed dinner,  my colleague’s steak frites $27 seemed to be the most tempting.

Beet Salad $12                                                   Spinach Ravioli $20Philadelphia Brasserie

I started my dinner with the beet salad accompanied by mascarpone cheese, candied walnuts and dressed with a pomegranate vinaigrette.  The rich, smooth Italian cheese combined with the beets and frisee was refreshing and I could eat it again and again.  Unfortunately, the spinach ravioli, which I ordered as my main plate (this is also available as a hors d’oeuvres) was bland and a bit disappointing.

Despite the lackluster ravioli, if I lived in this part of town I’d come here often.  I loved the vibe of this place and I think you will too.

Suddenly it makes sense

soccer homophobiaNormally, my Suddenly it makes sense posts are very tongue in cheek but this German football (soccer) commercial which is making the rounds on facebook was developed to raise awareness and fight homophobia in the sport. The advertisement not only gets my attention (and kudos) but definitely makes me think I should probably watch a bit more of this sport.

Wicked Gay Blog

Shown above is Marc, David, and yours truly. David over at Wicked Gay Blog (shown in the middle) has recently returned after a brief hiatus from the blogging world.  I have the utmost respect for David and consider this fellow Bostonian a friend so I wanted to give him a shout out. If you are not familiar with this Boston blogger, check out his slightly naughty, definitely flirtatious blog at www.WickedGayBlog.com

Things that make BosGuy go hmm…

Four skins wineThis is the Spectacle Group’s label design for Jost Vineyard’s.  The website says, 4 Skins wine is “sophisticated with a cheeky sense of humor.

I’m not sure if “cheeky” is exactly the body bawdy humor I’d want attributed to my wines but it certainly makes for a good gag gift I suppose.

Fitness tips from Kris Kranzky

Fitness tipsFor the past few weeks I’ve been posting fitness tips from my trainer Kris Kranzky from the Boston Sports Club in the South End.  In previous week’s tips have included: scheduling time to work out, finding the right balance, and mixing up your work out routine.  This week’s tip deals more with decisions made outside of the gym.

A sensible diet is key: It is important to consume a variety of carbs, fats and proteins in your diet. Try to eat a range of fresh fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.  Natural sources of fat from foods like avocados, olives, nuts and types of fish in moderation is okay too.  As a rule of thumb, your total fat consumption should be 15-30% of total daily calorie intake.

Last week’s tip.

Broadway Bares XXII: Happy Endings

Broadway CaresLater this week on Sunday, June 17th Broadway Bares XXII: Happy Endings will take place at the Roseland Ballroom, with two shows 9:30PM and Midnight.  This annual show and gala raises money for Broadway Cares: Equity Fight AIDS. This year’s show is inspired by fairy tales but perhaps a bit more naughty than you may recall.

For those who were not fortunate enough to get tickets, I thought I’d include the teaser video that was created.  Enjoy the eye candy.

Boston Pride

Beautiful weather all weekend brought people out for Pride weekend in Boston.  As usual the Boston Pride parade was mostly forgettable, but the weekend proved to be a lot of fun.

Festivities started on Friday evening at the Boston Chapter of GLAAD cocktail reception.  On Saturday, after the parade I went to the “unofficial” block party on Chandler Street  dancing and chatting with friends while enjoying the beautiful weather.  The only frustration was the long lines to get drinks.  Hopefully they’ll figure out how to fix that for 2013 Pride (hint hint).

Sunday’s block party in the Back Bay turned out to be the big surprise. DJ Tracy Young kept the crowd of thousands in a frenzy for hours and capped off one of the best Pride Weekends in recent memory.  I’m pulling together a video but wanted to share a few fun pics from the weekend.

My crazy partner

Work has brought me into New York City for a couple of days.  My lunatic of a boyfriend emailed me this video of himself to make me laugh and remember to call him.  I thought I’d upload it to YouTube so everyone could see my crazy partner; and by the way  I called him – definitely.

Rafael Nadal

Rafa NadalRafael “Rafa” Nadal from Spain won a record 7th French Open in a four set match that had repeated stops due to rain and spanned two days.  With this win, Nadal has now surpassed Sweden’s Bjorn Borg’s record and tied the record held by American, Chris Evert, for the most French Open titles.  It’s hard to imagine this 26 year old not winning another in his career an d one can only imagine how many French Open Championships he’ll collect in his career. Well done Rafa.

Joe Manganiello

If you are gay look closely at the photograph below. There are actually three people in this photograph.  I only saw Joe Manganiello. Really, when you look below, can you blame me?

GLAAD Boston Pride reception at Emerald Lounge

The Boston chapter of Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) hosted a cocktail party at the new Revere Hotel’s swanky Emerald Lounge on Friday, June 8th.  The sold out event was a great way to start the weekend.

The event was mostly attended by gregarious 20 and 30 something gay men who were looking forward to mingle and enjoy the Ketel One Vodka drinks being liberally poured by a hard working and attentive Emerald Lounge Staff.  I created a quick 2 minute video compilation of photos from the cocktail reception.
