Amish employee refuses to issue drivers licenses, citing RFRA

Not to spell this out for those unfamiliar but many Amish do not drive cars for religious reasons.  The logic of the Kentucky DMV clerk, Kim Davis, who has been denying marriage licenses to a same sex couple follows the same line of logic as shown in the FOX News spoof.  Perhaps now one might realize not only how idiotic her logic is but how her actions do not violate anyone’s religious freedoms except those of the people being denied their right to marry.

Black Mass

Black Mass the movieBlack Mass, is a new movie that opens later this month and is based on Whitey Bulger, a convicted murderer and former mob boss from Boston who also happened to be an FBI informant and who’s brother, Billy Bulger, was one of the state’s most powerful politicians.

After 16 years in hiding Bulger was found and arrested in 2011; at the time of his arrest he was listed as the second most wanted man by the FBI in the United States.  This movie is the story of his life.

Black Mass stars Johnny Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon and Dakota Johnson and opens later this month on September 18th.  Do you plan on seeing the movie?

We need a contractor for a small home remodeling job

home remodelingSince the spring Sergio and I have been (ever so slowly) remodeling out kitchen and dining area.  The project has proven to be such a huge headache I can no longer watch HGTV without shouting bullsh*t when I see their talkshow hosts gush about how much they love remodeling projects.

Fortunately we are now in the home stretch, but we need a contractor to install reinforced supports for a bar we are having built. If you have a suggestion, leave a comment or email me directly at bosguymail@gmail.com.  I’ll be more than happy to buy you a thank you drink if we use your reference.

Allston Christmas, September 1st

Over the years locals have come to refer to September 1 as “Allston Christmas”; sarcastically referring to all the discarded junk renters leave curbside.

I have heard estimates that 80% of all apartments in Boston have a September 1 – August 31 lease; driven by the nearly 250,000 students who return to Boston each year.  Neighborhoods like Allston-Brighton have a large number of rentals and are impacted disproportionately – hence the term Allston Christmas.

US Open 2015

Serena WillisamsThe 2015 US Open starts today.  New York City will be awash with the best tennis players in the world, but nobody will have more eyes on them then Serena Williams.  At 34 years old she is not only the best in the world, but she is also on the verge of winning the calendar year Grand Slam: Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.

The last woman to win the calendar year grand slam was Stefi Graf in 1988 who accomplished this amazing feat when she was 19 years old. I’ll be cheering for Serena until I’m hoarse for the next two weeks.

Earlier this summer I posted a photograph of a NYC subway station that materialized in front of my office at 125 High Street, which you can see here.

Yesterday, Adam over at Universal Hub posted this photograph of the Ghostbuster’s car being towed over the Mass Ave bridge from Cambridge to Boston yesterday, indicating that filming for the sequel continues.

James Cerne in HARD DECISIONS

Hard DecisionsLocal boy, James Cerne, who moved to Los Angeles but you may know from his DJ’ing days here in Boston or his role in Ryan Landry’s Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Oberon back in the fall of 2011 is now part of a gay-themed, choose-your-own-adventure movie coming to YouTube called HARD DECISIONS.

HARD DECISIONS follows Brandon and his friends as they decide what to do with their afternoon. Each decision will lead the viewer to another segment to continue the story. The viewer can then go back and see what might have happened if Brandon made decisions differently.  Too bad life didn’t work that way.
