Although it will likely be summertime before any medical marijuana dispensaries in MA open their doors for business, twenty licenses were granted by the State today.
The State’s Department of Public Health approved marijuana dispensaries in: Ayer, Boston, Brockton, Brookline, Cambridge, Dennis, Fairhaven, Haverhill, Holyoke, Lowell, Mashpee, Milford, Newton, Northampton, Plymouth, Quincy, Salem, Taunton and Worcester. I couldn’t find the addresses of where these will be in those communities, but I’m sure there’ll be a lot more about this forthcoming.
I wish more black men would keep the hair on their chest.

What are people commonly asking about your state? The @Amazing_Maps Twitter account shared this graphic earlier this week, showing the top Google auto complete suggestion for every state. I’m actually rather proud of Massachusetts auto complete.
CEO of Euro Pacific Capital Peter Schiff does not believe the US should have a minimum wage – let alone have a discussion about raising the minimum wage. I find that opinion extremely disheartening but it was his thoughtful response to Samantha Bee that makes me think, “What a dick.”
Schiff: “If we eliminated the minimum wage law then individuals would be free to accept jobs at whatever pay they’re able to get.”
Bee: “Paint me a picture of a person whose work would be worth $2 an hour.”
Schiff: “You know somebody who might be? Maybe somebody who is, uh, you know, what’s the politically correct word? Uh, you know, uh, for, uh, you know, mentally retarded?”

I stumbled upon a couple of really nice renderings of the Ink Block – a large, mixed use development just blocks from my home in Boston’s South End. I believe this photograph is a rendering of what the corner of Harrison Avenue and Traveler Street will look like when the development is done. Below I snagged an image of the former Boston Herald building (courtesy of Google Maps) that the Ink Block is being built upon. Under the former Herald building is an aerial view of the entire project. Seeing these images makes me very excited. When done, retail and commercial space as well as a couple hundred apartments and condos will replace what had previously been under used and mostly vacant space.
I feel like this woman’s sign articulates the logic of gun control. I recognize I’m in the distinct minority of Americans who believe nobody should have a gun unless it is for hunting or you are in the military or police. Incidentally, the list below details the number of school shootings since Newtown, CT’s tragedy in Dec 2012. What a sad indictment of America. Makes me really wonder if we are truly the home of the brave if we can’t stand up to the N.R.A.

Massachusetts native (turned New Yorker) and gay rapper who is responsible for such ditties as I seen Beyonce at Burger King and my personal favorite, Ice Cream Truck, is back with a new song called Helen Keller. Apparently Cazwell is taking the name of the famous American author and activist who was born deaf and blind and turning her name into a word that describes someone you completely cut out of your life.
Like the end of the song says, “We’re done. I don’t see you and I don’t hear you. We’re through… Buh-Bye.”
I think that Gretchen Wieners might have a better chance of making “fetch” work than this new use of an iconic American heroine, but I suppose time will tell. Until then, check out Cazwell’s latest video.

In the winter I really love to make grilled cheese sandwiches. They are so satisfying and easy to make; I can make this in 10-15 minutes without needing a single pan. I layer my sandwiches with tomato, prosciutto, mozzarella and mustard but you can add whatever you like.
I start by spritzing each side of bread with olive oil and putting it on foil under the broiler. Once the bread starts to toast on each side I take it out and slather on mustard, thinly sliced tomatoes, prosciutto and of course cheese. Press the bread together and place it under the broiler for just a minute or two. Then turn off the broiler and leave the sandwich there for another minute or two. Pull out the sandwich, cut it, plate it with chips and pour yourself a cold beer. It is delicious every time. I promise.
